Honor. The word honor is used to describe an individual on their devotion to a cause. Throughout the novel of “The Great Gatsby” by F.Scott Fitzgerald, the reader is introduced to many characters but only one is deemed honorable and that individual is Jay Gatsby. Gatsby shows his honor through many different scenarios in the novel. A few of them being as follows; when Gatsby keeps his promise to Daisy, and when he stays devoted to his cause and when Gatsby takes the blame of Myrtles death upon himself. Gatsby is the only character in the entire novel who chases his dream and stays devoted to his cause while doing everything he can to accomplish it. James Gats was Gatsby’s original name and he was born in North Dakota. This information allows the reader to be aware of Gatsby’s true past and it gives the reader an idea of where Gatsby started and the struggles he went through. Gatsby decided to enlist in the army at a young age but before he left, he was in love with a girl named Daisy. They both were in love with each other however Gatsby had to leave since he was part of the military but he did make a promise to Daisy that he would one day comeback. No other character chased their dreamed and stayed devoted to it unlike Gatsby. He made a promise to Daisy and he kept that promise. He was devoted to Daisy and nothing stopped him from chasing her. Ever after Daisy killed Myrtle, Gatsby wanted to ensure Daisy’s safety and decided to take the blame on to himself. Only Gatsby stays devoted to his cause unlike every other character. Gatsby then tries to be with her as himself, which later leads to his own death. If he had never shown Daisy his true self or tried to be with her openly and honestly like he did, he never would have lost her. This shows how quickly the American Dream can fail when it is in reality instead of under lies and falsehoods. His infinite power has been inspired. In order to shake off poverty, at first he joined the army. During the time of serving, Gatsby fell in love with Daisy who was a daughter of a rich businessman. And in his eyes, Daisy’s living style and her beauty were the ideal incarnation that Gatsby was always dreaming of. But the relationship between them were not possible, because he did not have enough money to afford Daisy a luxuriant life.
Daisy however, very heartbroken and anxious to start a family, failed to wait for Gatsby while he was at war and she vulnerably fell in love with Tom and his money. Throughout the time Gatsby was away she grew and developed mentally, leaving him to love someone that no longer existed. When Gatsby says “Can’t repeat the past? In our world it is hard to indicate whether it is genuine when an individual is treated in a kind matter or being deceived in order to get exploited for something in one’s possession. It is quite unfortunate that in this world, homo sapiens use a gift such as kindness in order to deceive and get whatever they desire, instead of being genuinely kind to one another. A person should not have to doubt the truthfulness behind someone’s kindness towards them. The readers of F. This lead to him thinking everything was perfect and heading off to war, leaving Daisy behind. When he returned, he still had the same dream that he had once accomplished, but it had become unrealistic because Daisy was married. Gatsby’s dream began to cloud his reality and he didn’t give up on it. Despite it being unreachable, Gatsby’s dream continued to be very important to him, as he felt “that if he had searched harder, he might have found her” (152-153). He didn’t know how to win Daisy over, but that didn’t stop him from trying and searching.
In love, caring, and greedy, Gatsby gives up everything for someone who isn't worth his time but in his eyes she's perfect and everything he wants. Gatsby has made many plans to see Daisy and because of this people see him as a stalker but others see him in love. Gatsby and Daisy met when Gatsby was in the war. In The Great Gatsby Fitzgerald introduces a character known as Tom Buchanan who is a hulking, hyper-masculine, aggressive, and super rich. He is the representation of old money; the best representation of one of the seven deadly sins: pride. Pride, as defined by Wikipedia, is ”dangerously corrupt selfishness, putting one's own desires, urges, wants, and whims before the welfare of others”. In the Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald uses the character of Tom Buchanan to show how excessive pride can lead to arrogance and self-destructive behaviors.

Gatsby represents the American Dream throughout the story, he works hard towards rewarding achievements but is let down, because others would rather have money, power, and society’s approval. Jay Gatsby grew up in a poor family from North Dakota. As a farm child he worked hard and followed the American dream. He wanted to escape the poor farm life and make a name for himself. He wanted to be someone that was looked up to by others.
In almost every page you read, a reader could find character that are showing a sense of pride toward themselves or towards a belief. Toward the end of the book a character named Wilson believed that killing gatsby is the right thing to do (pg.). His pride would lead him to believing that is was true. In conclusion, “The Great Gatsby” while being a book of amazing story and themes. Pride is the biggest appeal in the story which F. Scott Fitzgerald gave the reader.

The book's main character Jay Gatsby, loves to simulate and relive the past. Gatsby is a nostalgic character who throughout the story has a moral ambiguity with his obsession with trying to prove that he can recreate past triumphs, believing that the past held everything that was great about his life, but it’s impossible to re-spark past emotions and memories. Nothing can be as it once was, people grow each day. Each new day a person has a new outlook on life, they have new feelings, emotions, and opinions.
From a young age, we have been taught what behavior is acceptable and deemed good, and what is immoral or bad. In the novel, “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald, many of the characters require questioning regarding if they should be classified as truly moral people who exhibit goodness or correctness in their lifestyles. In their society, the goals shared by all are becoming rich and fitting in, and often in order to meet them, actions are taken which harm others but benefit themselves. The author conveys that morality has little value to the characters in Gatsby because they take any means necessary in order to achieve their dreams and fail to think about the consequences of their impulsive actions.
Gatsby had known Daisy for a long period of time. Gatsby realized when he first met Daisy that she was the love of his life. Though they were separated for a lengthy interim, Gatsby had devoted his entire life to gaining the love of Daisy. In fact, his mind was "full of the idea so long, dreamed it right through to the end, waited with his teeth set, so to speak, at an inconceivable pitch of intensity” (Fitzgerald 88). Gatsby's only goal in life was to achieve Daisy's love; therefore, he was filled with excitement when his chance came to prove his love to Daisy.
