Someone once said “A lot of the things we have today that are manmade came from people who dared to think outside of the box.” In society individualism is an important factor for today’s life. People who are individual seem to have a better understanding of the world and make better choices in life. They are on their own and do not count on many people to know what is better for them; they make their own choices. Individualism is when someone stands out and is independent, they do not depend on anyone around them but themselves. It is also when someone is unique in their own way. Their way of thinking is logical and reasonable. This ties in with Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. When Montag meets Clarisse when he is walking home from work, Clarisse makes him think and realize what is happening around him. Montag thinks to himself and describes his other self a “subconscious idiot that ran babbling at times” (Bradbury 14). He believes he’s an idiot because his subconscious was “independent of will” (Bradbury 15) and was actually considering having the thoughts that Clarisse was talking to him about. He was having thoughts that he never had before his mind is expanding and thinking more to itself. He is is having beliefs of how his life actually came to be and thinking more about life of his everyday routine. Surviving and actually being an individual is difficult to achieve in life now a days. In life people depend on a lot of beings to be there and help them throughout their struggles. She then realized that things were just getting worse and she become less and less dependent of the people around her. She becomes her own individual self and starts making her own decisions about what she’s going to do with her life. She starts going against her government for her own opinion. Not everyone can go against the government and do what they think is right. Being an individual caused her lots of trouble but with her not going through that trouble she would not be able to become the person she is today and survive with the obstacles she’s been and has to go through. Without individuals in this world the earth would not be the same place it is today. A lot of things would be different, everyone will count on someone to do the simplest tasks instead of thinking that they could actually do that task themselves. People are frightened to be an individual because of how people would judge them and how they would be treated. People who embrace their uniqueness have been more successful and also have had an easier way of living. Being an individual also has the perks of helping shape your personality.
