Thomas Jefferson once stated that,”When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty.” Jefferson’s statement shows that resistance to injustice becomes a necessity in order to obtain true justice. There are several examples in history and books alike where people or characters had to rise against the injustices around them. Taking a stand against injustice was a very important part of the Crucible, Women’s Suffrage, and the Civil Rights Movement. The actions taken against the injustices by the characters in the Crucible, and people fighting for Women’s Suffrage and Civil Rights shows that often times you have to stand up for what you believe in, in order to reap the positive benefits. Throughout the Crucible the characters had to live
The Crucible teaches readers to stick to what they believe in, even if others disagree. John died, but with honor because he did not let others change his mind. Like John Proctor risks his life to say what he believes in, others from around the world protest what they believe in even though some get thrown in
In the play "The Crucible" written by Arthur Miller, each and every character holds the trait of either being weak, showing courage or being truthful. Overall the play held a powerful message that sometimes things aren't how they seem and won't always work out for the good. The play started off with young girls in the forest dancing and doing witchcraft in the depth of the night, going against the belief of the towns Christly behavior. The girls were weak during this scene because they were all hoping to get something great out of this.
In The Crucible (1953), Arthur Miller tells his audience the cause of mass a hysteria in salem massachusetts. The crucible in salem witch trials killing more the 19 men and women for being related to witchcraft. Several young girls attempting to conjure spirits from the dead, rather than admit and take their punishment the girls accused inhabits for there actions, playing with witchcraft. The girls avoiding punishment resulted of having convicting and executed nineteen men and women. Killing and hanging people is better than taking a punishment?
Justice is seen in all aspects of life, and some may pursue justice while others will try anything on their favor to surpass it. Wrongful convictions haven’t been anything new, The Crucible takes place in Salem and occurs to present the Salem Witch Trials, while To Kill A Mockingbird, explores the 1930s from the view of a small girl named Scout, living in Maycomb in a racially divided town in where Tom Robinson, a black man, is accused of raping a white woman. In To Kill a Mockingbird and The Crucible, both John Proctor and Tom Robinson are victims of injustice and convicted of crimes they never committed and so they are looked down upon by the townsmen. Despite all of this, Reverend Hale and Atticus try to change the town’s bias even though
Poor Behavior in “The Crucible” Ever wonder why people dies in The Crucible? The impact of Poor Behavior is exhibited throughout The Crucible. Most of the characters act badly.
Society today is really judgemental. If you don’t wear the right clothes or have the right car then you will get judged. It’s kinda like in the book The Crucible if you weren't a puritan then you were an outcast or you might have been a witch. One of the puritan girls Abigail Williams blamed a lot of women who were called puritans and lived the puritan way. In this case people just judged them without looking into far more research.
The crucible portrays injustice by how Danforth is not following court that is ruled by religion. Evidence that shows that it's injustice is when Reverend Hale asks Elizabeth "Do you know your commandments Elizabeth?"(Miller 496). Hale is asking her this to test
What if there was a society where God was loved the same amount as His wrath is feared? Well, in the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller, the Puritans were a society who loved and feared God equally. They loved and feared Him to a point where they blamed others for their sins. A group of young girls were caught doing witchcraft in the forbidden woods. The girls put the blame on others so they would not be the ones in trouble and the accused Puritans were all innocent of doing witchcraft.
Hypocrisy is the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform; pretense. In the book the Crucible there are many hypocrites some dishonest some just following any one to be guilty, but one of the many character is Judge Danforth he mocks Marry when he ask "How were you instructed in your life? Do you not know that God damns all liars?"(3-84), since Danforth is in power for being the judge he thinks that everyone else is ignorant and not being equal as him.
Do you remember learning about the Holocaust in school? Do you remember all of the feelings and thoughts you had? Imagine if it was you. Imagine if you were one of the soldiers. Would you stand up for what was right?
Although, many people that were condemned weren’t actually apart of the Communist Party, (under McCarthyism around 1950-1954) they got blacklisted or lost their jobs. This social injustice is also portrayed in The Crucible as its characters face the Salem Witch Trials. Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible as his own reaction to the injustice of McCarthyism. Miller’s purpose was to show how people accused each other with false denunciations because of their fear, jealousy and solely hatred of one another under McCarthyism.
The Real Victim Have you ever gotten in trouble for something you didn't do because you didn't have enough evidence or power to convince them? Arthur Miller's "The Crucible" has a lot of problems in it that are corrupted. Elizabeth, who is John Proctor’s wife is convicted of witchcraft and is now on trial to get imprisoned or even hanged. An example of this is when John Proctor is saying the court is getting tricked by girls who are playing a game, and the court takes that offensive. John is now on trial to prove the girls are playing a game but it's not going so well because the leading girl, Abigail who loves John and wants to be with him, is the one who accused John's wife of witchcraft and Parris, the minister of the church, is against John as well and is pointing every little thing John does wrong.
Abbi Dahn English 3 Mrs. Fritz & Mr. Bertelsen 6 October 2017 Power, Authority, Respect In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, I think that every main character shows who they truly are by either wanting power, authority, or respect. I think they do this because their whole community is being accused of witchcraft, so they are trying to protect themselves and their family. When something bad happens, it is natural to do whatever you can to either stay safe or to stay out of whatever is happening.
Hero: A person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities; however, heroism is not synonymous with perfection. Man can be a hero in spite of having some flaws. This is apparent in The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, a story about the Salem Witch Trials in which Abigail Williams accuses dozens of innocent people of witchcraft. Despite being flawed, John Proctor, Reverend Hale, and Elizabeth Proctor can demonstrate their heroism in The Crucible. John Proctor is shown to be both a hero and a flawed man in regards to his lechery.
The crucibles is a very good example that I believe should be spread to people on how and what we should prevent and people should take it very close to heart. The crucibles is a wonderful play to read and watch, I’m glad that I got the opportunity to learn not just history, but human
