Measuring Human behavior for Business Before proceeding to how human behavior is measured, we should first understand the basic principles of measurement and why should we care about how to measure them. What is measurement? In simple language, measurement can be the size, length or amount of something. As a definition, measurement is the assignment of a number to an attribute of an object or event, which helps it to compare with another object or event. With the significant advancement in technology and strong economic growth, people’s life has become very easy. Time has been a game changer and with it has reoriented the behavior of human beings towards day to day activities. Earlier, when people did not have much resources (or had resources but did not know their use), they acted or reacted in a different manner than we observe today. The psyche of human beings has undergone a drastic evolution with discoveries and inventions that have proved to be a boon for mankind. Today, everything can be measured – from the tangible to the intangible. The elevation in measurement of cognitive behavior has been revolutionary and given much strength to the market strategists and to the people in general. There can be quite a number of factors that need to be taken into account for measuring behavior of a human being. We might consider different facets of behavior for different situations which would eventually help in accurately analyzing the data we collect.
