Brains over brawns is Odysseus’ motto. In the Odyssey, Odysseus is a hero because he stabbed the cyclops in the eye, he was a great leader, and he defeated all of penelope's suitors. He was arrogant at times and that's why you might say he is not a hero. But every time he made a mistake he backed it up.
He stabs the Cyclops in the eye. If he would’ve tried to stab him when he was asleep he and his men would never be able to escape from the cave because the cyclops was the only one strong enough to open it. This shows he is a hero, because he is always thinking one step ahead.¨If I had killed him we perished there as well, for we could never move his ponderous doorway slab aside¨(Lines 204 - 205, 970).
He was also a great leader. When they were going by Silla he never told his men that 6 of them were going to die. If he did, there hopes would have be down and none would want to keep going. His main goal is to keep his men safe, and after they were turned into pigs by Circe; he got his men back. He was also a good leader when he led his warriors in the Trojan war to victory.

He hid all of the possible weapons for the suitors to use and killed them all while being disguised as a old beggar. Penelope's nurse saw the scar on the bottom of his foot. Penelope held a test that no could complete except Odysseus. She has the beggar shoot an arrow through 12 axes but then Odysseus was the only one who completed it. Then she became aware that the beggar could be Odysseus so she held another test. That was, she had a suitor move his bed, and one of the legs were a tree so it couldn't be moved. That made Odysseus angry and he began to kill all of the
Odysseus did the exact opposite by leading his men into danger and practically killing them himself. He is not open minded, very stubborn, and goes against his subordinates. Odysseus is very clever, however he is not very open minded with his subordinates as well as the gods. He won
I believe Odysseus is not a hero because he let many people die. He also didn't save his men from the Cyclops “He couldn't save his people.” I personally think that he didn’t try to save them at all. Odysseus did not save his people in time. According to Homer, “ While he fought only to save his life, to bring his shipmates home.
He doesn't tell his men this and he sacrifices 6 of his men just so he wouldn't die. The Charybdis is a giant whirlpool that swallows ships. Later in the poem he comes home to his wife but only she didn't know it was him. Odysseus was dresses as a beggar. He tests his wife to see if she had been faithful to
Leaving the cyclops Polyphemus behind, blind as a bat, he shows of his bravery by saying, “cyclops, if ever mortal men inquire how you were put to shame and blinded, tell him Odysseus, raider of cities, took your eye…” (Fitzgerald 1057). This shows that his bravery is a key factor of his formidable self because if he was not brave then nobody would look up to him, hence making him not a heroic man. Notably, his loyalty to his family and homeland make him a formidable foe. The main mission of his extreme quest was to get back to Penelope and Telemachus in Ithaca if he was not loyal to his family then he would have most likely fallen in love with calypso and not have even continued his quest.
He just revealed himself and is waiting for Penelope to come and run into his arms. Penelope has had to learn how to trust no one because she has spent 20 years without her husband and because she has had suitors in her house for the last 3 years, taking everything she loves and cherishes from her, so when Odysseus reveals himself, she can not just trust it is him and not somebody else. Because of this, she asks him about a secret that only he would know by telling the servants to move their bed. This bed is so important because Odysseus has built their entire house around this bed and it can not move. When Penelope asks him to move it, he thinks another man has been in his bed, and he gets very angry and, at that moment, Penelope can finally trust that her love is back.
He leads his men across the sea into a battle versus the Trojans. Odysseus and his men defeated the Trojans because of his great leadership. Knowing that he cannot defeat the Trojans from outside the walls, he comes up with another idea. He makes a giant wooden horse called the Trojan horse and they show it as a sign of “peace”. The Trojans take the gift, not knowing that inside the horse was Odysseus and a few of his men.
A hero is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements or noble qualities. In the movie, Odysseus shows that he is a hero by showing off his bravery and courage to defeat several monsters. He showed courage when he faced the Cyclops, when he met Lotus Eaters, and when he went back to Ithaca to see his wife. Odysseus and his men went to the cave to show the Cyclops that they are better than him. The Cyclops got angry when he got back to his cave since Odysseus and his men were eating the Cyclops’ food.
Odysseus is a hero because he is smart. For example, when Odysseus and his men approach the giant he offers him ¨liquor to wash down your scraps of men¨ (Homer 991). Odysseus is clever by doing this because he can predict that the liquor will make him fall asleep. He knows that the boulder that is blocking the entrance is heavy so he doesn 't kill Polyphemus. Instead, Odysseus only hurts him.
In The Odyssey by Homer, Homer makes Odysseus look like a hero, but his actions show that he is not. I do not believe that Odysseus deserves the title of a hero because his flaws kill his men, he cheats on Penelope, and he lies and spies on Penelope. When Odysseus and his men meet the cyclops, Odysseus decides to stay at the cyclops’ cave and see what he has to offer, even though his men think they should just steal all the cyclops’ food and run away. Since Odysseus made his decision to stay, his men were eaten by the cyclops.
Although Odysseus is still hiding his identity, Penelope’s confidence grows because she knows that this will force Odysseus to finally come out of disguise and compete in the contest to finally prove that he is indeed the one true Odysseus, king of Ithaca. During the contest while the suitors struggle, Odysseus still disguised as the beggar pleads to Antinous to give him a shot at stringing the bow. They are enraged by the fact that a mere beggar will even think of competing but most importantly they are frightened he will prevail. Penelope uses this moment to finally get Odysseus to reveal his true identity. Odysseus proves his identity by stringing the bow and successfully shooting it through all twelve
I think Odysseus is not a hero. Most people would say he is but I think this because he is a selfish man and kills people. At first he sounds like an okay person who is a nice man. Wait till you find out what he has done. Odysseus is a very Selfish man.
Odysseus is an epic hero because of his bravery and confidence during every obstacle throughout his journey In Part 1 whie Odysseus is about to come across cyclops cave, he says “I brought along and victuals in a bag, for in my bones I knew some towering brute would be upon so soon- all outward power, a wild man, ignorant of civility. “ Odysseus is showing his bravery of not being petrified of what he might come across, like the cyclops. Odysseus has no intention of harming them, but he is not sure what their intention is. This example is important because not only does it show confidence in himself, he also shows confidence in his men. In Part 2 Odysseus also shows his confidence in his men in part 2 where Eurylochus says, “Are you flesh and blood, Odysseus, to endure more than a man can?
Heroes are, “People who take risks despite fear”(Source 2). In The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus faces many challenges that make him a hero. He battles monsters, goddesses, and enchantresses. Odysseus is a hero in the way that he uses his brain to think about and approach dilemmas. When he and his men are on the Cyclops’ island, Odysseus tells the cyclops that his name was Nobody.
In The Odyssey, Odysseus was a major hero of the novel. He had both heroic traits and human weaknesses. Odysseus defeated the Cyclops, defeated the suitors that were courting his wife, and overcome other challenges throughout the novel. A special trait that made Odysseus a hero was that he was a courageous
Throughout the epic, Odysseus and his lover showed their cunning ways. Penelope is trying to void the suitors from marrying her until her husband returns. Penelope holds off the suitors by creating devious and intelligent test for them to pass. “Here is my lord Odysseus hunting bow… Nobody bends that bow stave easily in this company…
