However, I am aware that the beginning of effective leadership would be by developing a vision of the organization where a nurse leader serves. Coming up with a picture of what would be a future of excellence in delivering nursing care in the organization would be crucial in motivating and raising commitment among the other nurses. As a nurse leader, the vision that I would hold dear would be to ensure I have the capacity to make sure that the systems in place benefit individual needs of the patients in a manner that patients are always handled with respect and dignity while the work that nurses perform is respected and valued. For this to be met, there is a need for the nurse leader to assist the other nurses grasp the envisioned picture and remaining at the forefront in directing the others on where to go. Subsequently, I would want to be the kind of a nurse leader who can enable the staff to grasp the vision, to make sure the appropriate people assume the nursing roles and to model the behaviors that are desired of the other

“A philosophy of nursing presents a particular professional nurse’s belief system or worldview of nursing the nurse’s personal definition of nursing” (Kearney-Nunnery, 2012, p. 17). My personal nursing philosophy is one in which the patients overall health, including emotional and spiritual needs are being met. This is done through collaborative care with the patient, physicians and colleagues. The collaboration must obtain effective communication within every interaction. I believe the exchanges between every member must be open and honest, that builds a relationship centered in trust.

Leadership doesn’t necessarily mean a nurse in a manager position, but a nurse who has an influence on staff. (Finkelman, et al, 2013). Nurses can give an insight on matters that only a nurse can, and this is an important viewpoint that needs to be included when
Each individual has their own values and initiative of a situation. However it is important that those values are clear and justifiable in order to show impeccable courage. Accessing the target goals and final outcome of the situation should always be taken into account, in order to achieve the correct and suitable care. As mentioned before honesty is a key aspect that collaborates with courage. Being honest provides strength to speak out and take action, stepping out of comfort zones, hurdling obstacles and taking risks (Kantor, 2015).
If you look out for the wellbeing of you patient and express what is best for your patient then you are actively practicing the value of altruism in the field of nursing. Next, the professional value of autonomy. Autonomy is the personal value of one over themselves, free form control of others (96). An autonomous person is one who acts intentionally, with understanding and without the influences of others opinions on them. As a nurse it is important to know when to give your input and when to hold off.
It is the job of the APN to apply their skills to promote a culture of excellence. Promoting such a culture involves using all aspects of the quality competency. The Nurse Practitioner is in a unique position as a clinician and manager. According to Carney (2011), clinical managers have the capability to ensure the safe, ethical, and high quality of care due to their professional background, which is firmly grounded in ethical healthcare. Therefore, the APN has a distinct set of skills that will ensure positive patient outcomes.
