Principle # 1: When there are many distractions Learning requires more time, patience and effort. It’ s more difficult to focus and recite what you have taught yourself when studying , because we only remember the distractions. The processes that allow an individual to select and focus on a topic while simultaneously doing other things that don’t fully take away your attention span is Selective Attention. The competing information can occur both externally, or internally. (Khan Academy, 2015). Traditional selective attention research suggest the selective attention strategy is not an adequate generalexplanation for why readers tend to learn and recall important text information better than less important text information (Reynolds and Arnold, 1982).
I know it takes me forever to finish my work or study when there are distractions. I tend to stop focusing on my task, and start focusing on the distraction; which is almost anything that sound interesting or to loud. I will keep the principle in mind so that I can remember to avoid distractions that has nothing to do with what I am studying or doing. This will help me to accomplish everything I need to get done without being distracted by my phone or the T.V.
Principle # 2: Applying the spacing effect will improve your learning and your

When I wake up in the morning and I get out of bed, I automatically brush my teeth, or when I finish eating breakfast, I automatically wash my dishes, or when I use the latrine I automatically wash my hands. This principle assists my goals of better time management skills. I can utilize the concepts learned in this principle to improve my time management skills by constant repetition based on a cue (my set schedule), to help me form a good habit. I will reward myself with going shopping at the end of the week; or even something simple like sitting down and having a healthy conversation about life with my
Since graduate school I have identified that I have trouble writing papers on subjects that are not of interest to me. I struggle to remain focus, and I get writer’s block often. It has been established that when and individual has selective attention they are generally working at the basic levels of perceptual identification (Weber & Johnson, 2009). One solution that I have utilized was taking scheduled breaks from completing the assignment. This would include reading a journal or two with taking notes than take a break.
Although it had this issue, his paper was rather persuasive because of its plentiful examples, outside sources, and personal experiences. To begin these claims, Carr states that he has had difficulty maintaining concentration while reading long articles and books in recent years (Para. 2).
Improvement is something that is always welcomed in my family, my parents taught me to believe that you can be great but there is always room to be better. From a young age that has been instilled into my head and I continue to believe in it. From taking JROTC, the program has helped me to improve a lot over the two years. I began this year with low rated decision making and time management skills, this quarter I have improved. While I have improved in other areas I got worse in my self-esteem.
“Is Google Making Us Stupid” written by Nicholas Carr is a great article. He attempts to help us understand that as a society the more that the World Wide Web turns into our essential source of data, it starts to lower our ability to read books. Despite the fact that reading offers information that the internet may already have, it makes the learning process slower. One of the first things that Carr makes clear in this writing piece is that he loses focus very quickly when reading. Carr felt that the web should make searching things quick and easy.
I felt that this really hit home for me because I find myself often starting tasks at work without a plan in mind and often end up aimlessly working on bits and pieces and wasting time. I plan to do this by updating my agenda daily to set my deadlines and prioritize daily tasks and preplanning goals. By doing this daily in the morning, I will have the ability to time block my day into three sections (morning, afternoon, night) to plan my day. Another key point that Tracy makes is “Creative Procrastination”, which is a fun way for saying prioritize your tasks. Procrastination is in my DNA and I even secretly enjoy the high stress of completing things before a deadline, so the idea of procrastinating the low priority projects and

9. Create Breaks Breaks are important in between tasks and learning. Breaks are experienced in places of work, worship, and schools. Breaks in between classes are very important. Walking around the class, stretching, or stop working for a while helps to relax and recompose a child (Kluth, 2010).

Experience over the years learned me to not react with impulsive but to overthink something before I reacts • I have self-care habits - I have some habits that I carry out when I need some me time • I use my support team – seeing that one of my weaknesses is to take on too much responsibility. So I will reach out for help when I am not coping. One of my weak points in that I don’t delegate/ or taking on to much responsibility. This also came out on my 360 feedback from my support team.

INTRODUCTION I. Attention step Attention getter: Students and textbook cannot be separated. Some students are willing to go to library to borrow books because books are getting expensive. Do you know why textbook are getting expensive?
Leonardo da Vinci once said, “Learning is the only thing the mind never exhausts, never fears, and never regrets.” To learn is to acquire, to gain, knowledge or skills, be it through study or by experience. For some, it is an interesting and fun process in life, for others, not so much. Thus, some may find it a bore or a chore and others may find it difficult when learning. However, if a student were to understand and master the difficulty of a particular skill or subject, the skill/subject would certainly gain some interest and confidence from the student when learning, from then onwards.
Charles Duhigg, a New York Times reporter is also the author of “The Power of Habit”. This scientific yet easy to read book is a true exposure of the science of productivity, self-discipline and belief in our daily actions. It focuses on why habits exist and how individuals can change them. As a result, Charles explains each exploration in a short story that embodies his research and passion for the topic. In order to change a habit loop, Charles states that an individual must understand that habits exist, and believe that he/she is in control of changing it.
It involves setting goals and managing your time. Developing my motivation and concentration skills will help me to overcome the lure of procrastination. Effective self-management will help me to avoid stress and provide me with more opportunities to get times to finish my
Time management: Time management is a very crucial component if you are willing to have a productive lifestyle. To be honest, I have always had issues with managing my time efficiently. This problem had become a huge obstacle once I got into college. Thus, attending a lecture that focuses on time management helped me a lot with this problem by introducing me to different aspects related to time management: planning, SMART goals, and important/urgent matrix. Learning to make a specific plan for my daily tasks and make a to-do list to make my day as productive as possible is something very helpful which was advised to me by the instructor of this lecture Mr. Irfan.
