Stanford University defines social innovation as a novel solution to a social problem that is more effective, efficient, sustainable, or just than present solutions and for which the value created accrues primarily to society as a whole rather than private individuals. Social innovation is further described as a best construct for understanding and producing a lasting social change. An example in the recent history for social innovation was Muhammad Yunus and the Grameen Bank, which pioneered microfinance for social good. The creation of microfinance meant that the poor people, who lived below the poverty line and previously excluded from the formal banking sector, were now included and were actively allowed to participate in the economy. The micro-enterprises which previously did not exist due to lack of funding were created and now addressed people’s needs. The overall impact was profit made for the microfinance institutions as well as improvement in the lives of the community. Thus social innovation is not only for non-profit organization. Social innovation, unlike social entrepreneurship and social enterprise includes both profit and non-profit sectors. Social innovation can take place at any institution profit, non-profit and government alike. There is currently cross sector collaboration that has been introduced due to increases in social ills that have been experienced. This inclusive approach is important in recognizing that innovation can emerge in any different
With an economy driven by capitalism and bottom lines, it seems inevitable that nonprofits must tap into these business dealings if they are to survive. In respect to this, chapter three of Leslie R. Crutchfield’s and Heather McLeod Grant’s book, Forces for Good: The Six Practices of High-Impact Nonprofits, titled “Make Markets Work,” delves into the strategies used by nonprofits who have harnessed business tactics in an effort to increase their social impact. Using three overall strategies- change business practices; partner with business; and run a business- the chapter describes how non-profits have achieved such successful leverage in the business world. A personal risk factor that has influenced Toni’s ability to manage change is that she suffers from depression. This has influenced her ability to manage change by making her feel unhappy, and that nothing is ever going to be good again. This links with the social determinant of health because it may effect her social interation with family and friends around her, which in turn could effect possible relationships with family and friends in the future. A personal protective factor that has influenced Toni’s ability to manage change is she tried to keep life as normal as possible, by doing this it meant that her everyday routines were still in place and it made her make the most of the day and not get stuck in a cycle of not getting up etc.
Many jobs sectors have opportunities available to any race. Diversity is key to strengthening a strong and inclusive economy. “Businesses that embrace the nation’s changing demographics reap the economic benefits of a diverse and inclusive workforce.” (Griswold, 2013). The benefits are numerous of including people from different cultures, backgrounds, and personalities because every person will think in different way and everyone will come up with a different idea.
Burger (2018b) describes social policy as “guidelines, principles, legislation, and activities that affect the living conditions condusive to human welfare” (p. 273). Services workers use social policy to help people meet their needs. It addresses populations, choices, actions, and problems. Examples of social policies that are funded by government subsidies include food stamps, welfare, health care, and social security benefits.
Political socialization is a process by which people form ideas about politics and acquire political values. To me my political socialization growing up, my family was very much into politics. My Grandparents and mother strongly believe in politics and getting involved in them as much as possible. As I've grown up I don't like politics much. I really do not understand them.

Political socialization is something that applies to every single person in the united states but today i 'm going to be looking at my political socialization. The political party that I agree with mostly and the one I would register with for voting is the Republican party. The main three political socializations that apply to are family, media, age. Im also going to be discuss how I believe my views will transform over many years of my life. There are many different political socialization that people have but these are the main ones for me.
Through out the world there are many companies that are working the same task as us, but in different race, gender, language, religion, education and skills. Although these companies are different they share the same goals and that is called diversity. Many of the components that make a company unique are how diversity is applied in an organization. More specific, “Sephora operates approximately 1,900 stores in 29 countries worldwide, with an expanding base of over 360 stores across North America.” As a result, employees will adapt to any change in the environment more rapidly than those who do not offer diversity in their companies, since diversity breeds innovation and innovation breeds business success.
Social Constructs are products of discrimination; race did not exist until racism existed, class did not exist until classism existed, and gender did not exist until sexism existed. These constructs occupy prominent positions in artwork, politics, as well as in social hierarchies. A social construct describes a mechanism developed by society, oftentimes with the intention of segregating and degrading people in order to establish power. When ideas are ‘social constructs’, it is not to say that said idea does not exist, but exists to castigate those for whom social constructs do not favor.
Another major political socialization agent that helped me shaped my political opinions were my friends. Many of my best friends are part of the LGBT community and have very strong opinions when it comes to politics. Since I am surrounded with friends most of the time because I am at school most of the day, they have made me realize that it was unfair that they were not able to get married when they wanted to because it was not allowed in most states. All of my friends also vowed not to get married until all the fifty states in America allowed same-sex couples to get married. I supported their decision and agreed because if they are happy, I am happy as well.
Therefore, there is a great deal of overlap between those who engage in philanthropic model for reputational reasons and those who follow the economic view of business' social
Successful strategies link diversity progress directly to business results. (www.diversityinc.com/diversity-management) Diversity in the workplace means bringing together people of different ethnic backgrounds, religions and age groups into a cohesive and productive unit. Advances in communication technology, such as the Internet and cellular phones, have made the marketplace a more global concept. In order to survive, a company needs to be able to manage and utilize its diverse workplace effectively. Managing diversity in the workplace should be a part of the culture of the entire organization As a group we discussed diversity management and realized that the world is a big place and there will always be diversity.
Business contributions to financial resources or executive time, such as contributions to the educations, arts or the community, are the examples of philanthropy. The point which distinguishes the philanthropy and ethical responsibilities is that the former are only desired and not expected in an ethical and moral help. Philanthropy is more voluntary or discretionary on the part of businesses. Communities desire firms to contribute their funds, facilities and time to the social programmes or purposes, but if the firms do not provide the desired level they are not regarded as unethical. As a part of philanthropic responsibilities it is important that managers and employees participate in charitable activities in their local communities, they provide assistance to private and public educational institutions and assist voluntary to those projects which enhance the communities’ “quality of
To innovate successfully a company should develop and stimulate the culture of innovations. When the clear vision for changes is created it should be communicated to the employees to involve them into the change process. Most people do not like changes. But in every company there are people who can become leaders for innovations. The company management should search such people and develop the company environment to stimulate initiative and reward innovations.
