Both The Tell Tale Heart And The Monkey's Paw contain suspense. From The Tell Tale Heart “ Object there was none. Passion there was none. I loved the old man” Pg. 89. This Is Suspense Because it makes you feel like he’s insane. He loved the old man and he’s trying to kill him. From The Monkey’s Paw “ I Wont “ Said his friend doggedly. “ I threw it on the fire if you keep it don't blame me for what happened pitch it on the fire again like a sensible man” Pg. 108. Suspense is a state or feeling of excited or anxious uncertainty about what may happen. For instance, page 173 states, “And this I did for seven long nights- every night just at midnight- but I found the eye always closed; and so it was impossible to do the work; for it was not the old man who vexed me; but his Evil Eye”. Page 173 has many examples of suspense but, the main one was that he wouldn’t kill the man for seven days. He was safe because, his eye was closed but, this then makes the reader fear for the man because, what if one of his eyes opened.
Suspense, the state of tension, anxiety, and uncertainty, like waiting for an outcome that comes very slow. Authors usually create suspense by using story elements. In the story “The Monkeys Paw” by W.W. Jacobs, he uses story elements such as foreshadowing, conflict, and surprise ending. Foreshadowing is one of the biggest ways that expresses suspense in the story. For example Sergeant Major Morris states that the first owner of the paw wished for death.
Normally, writers of fiction tend to use lots of suspenseful or intense description to pull their readers into their book. Better said, the writers are purposely trying to produce different emotions to the readers, and to engage them into the book. In the story “The Monkey’s Paw” the author, W. W. Jacobs indicates the importance of being mindful of what one wishes for. This is best revealed throughout the passage when the the wife and Mr. White were arguing about their last wish. The wife wanted the husband to use the last wish, but the husband would rather not use it.

The monkey, paw has horror and the suspense was the supernatural events going on in the story. In these three paragraphs I will talk about the suspense, fear, and surprise in these two stories.
In the end we can see how the author, W. W. Jacobs, used various literary devices to demonstrate theme throughout the story. The Tell-Tale Heart on the other hand, is about how the narrator tries to convince his readers that he’s not a psychopath, while planning to murder an elderly man due to his unnatural looking eye. In, “The Monkey’s paw” the paw can grant three wishes. Mr. White was the 3rd owner of the monkey’s paw, (The second owner was Sergeant-Major Morris, and the first owner being a man who wished for his own death.) Sergeant-Major Morris, is an English soldier who brings the enchanted monkey 's paw back from India.
Suspense was profound in “The Tell Tale Heart” by Edgar Allen Poe. Throughout the entirety of the book, he left the reader with multiple questions. It is a story completely based off of not knowing exactly what will happen next. but knowing something will happen. Whether it had been in the beginning when one could have been asking themselves what makes him so crazy, or at the end when one could have been asking themselves what happened after the cops were made aware of the situation, suspense was always there.

The tone of this story is dark and scary. In the beginning of the story, the reader does not know that the monkey’s paw is cursed, so the reader may think that the tone is something happy or lucky. But, this passage shows that the monkey's paw is cursed and that only bad things can come from it.
