One thing I know that sets me apart from other candidates applying to the University of California is that my actions have always been the way I express who I am. Many people feel they have to go over and under to explain to people how they are as a person. Yet, I don’t seek to be understood, I allow my actions to tell who I am. I have never had to explain to anyone how kind or determined I am. I show them by smiling in the halls and saying goodmorning, opening the doors for people walking by. Making conversation with the kids everyone else ignores. Letting that young lady know she dropped her wallet. Returning that young man's phone he left on the table. Studying day and night and going above and beyond with whatever is thrown in my direction.
I have always been that kid that did their homework before going out to play, even without my parents telling me to do so. Doing my very best has always been a priority for me, which has made
Hi, I am Vendela Eskind and I am applying for college. I feel that college is really what will get my future going. I am kind, courage’s, determined, and outgoing. My philosophy is that I can always work harder and there is no limit to my success or failure. I am one to always find and or see the best in people and in my future.
Journal #2 The purpose of the article,“What Colleges Want to See on Your Application” by Emily Driscoll, is to discuss what would differentiate future college applicants in a pool of indistinguishable applications and to aid them in their quest for higher education. This article does have bias in that the author fails to consider Seniors, or students about to graduate from high school, who have neither challenged themselves nor engaged in their neighborhood. Driscoll assumes that their audience has been through every step from community service to recommendations, or has the opportunity to make up for lost time. In the article “What Colleges Want to See on Your Application,” Emily Driscoll discusses the contents the best application must display.
These are some of the accomplishments I have did over my high school years. I am Maya Salone. Starting off my high school years by staying on track, making sure I will achieve my goals set ahead. As of so far I have achieved four/fifths of the goal. With A’s and B’s on my record throughout the year can be quite challenging.
Why do people come to california? Though people come to california for many, many reasons, the main reason people are attracted to this diverse state is the tales of success that are told. Many migrants came here in a hurry, expecting a better, easier life than the one back home, but most were disappointed. An example of this is the Great Migration, a large movement of African Americans from the American South, when many families moved away from the Jim Crow laws that segregated and oppressed them, and also looking for higher wages and better jobs in large cities. An example of this is shown in the article “The Warmth of Other Suns” when Isabel Wilkerson claims that they were “Not unlike anyone who ever longed to cross the Atlantic or the
Growing up in California, my whole life has been around farming and like many others, it’s how I make a living. It’s now been at least a year, living through the Dust bowl and many people have migrated to California with the hope of surviving this crisis. Keeping my crops has become a struggle and that's what most people including me depend on. I am lucky enough to be able to pay my mortgages even though I’m not able to keep the land with the help of family. It’s practically impossible.
I have learned to plan my time around working with my animals and chores, while also playing sports and doing my homework. These life skills are so important, and I am grateful that I got to learn
That is what I love about being a Californian. I can walk through my community and witness different cultures within our country. In terms of how I keep myself getting frustrated with ignorant or hurtful comments from my buddies that I served with, I do my best to first find the humor in it. Then I do my best to educate them on how I was raised or how I consider the culture of many Californians to value the empowerment of women and to treat them equally. I also express that my mother, older sister and my wife are very vocal, goal driven individuals that follow their professional and personal desires.
One being, learning how to manage my time. There were weeks where we would have school all day, then practice till five, then a basketball game at six. It was extremely hard to study, cheer, work, and somehow have a social life. These situations helped me plan ahead to when I was going to finish homework or study for my upcoming tests. I will use this useful skill in college next year where i'll find myself always looking for time that I don't have.
Trying to maintain a social life, school work, and having a family life with our parents. Without stress or knowing this feeling in your life than your life is a walk in the park. Going through struggles in life is what makes us in the end great because we know how to pass the obstacles
My expectations was blown away by an extremely diverse student body who all exemplified the caring nature of the city, greeting me as I walked through the Cathedral of Learning. My fascination with the school continued to grow as I learned about the diversity of the campus, with 1 in 4 students at the campus being of a different ethnicity than Americans. The university presents an opportunity to communicate with people from different culture, which helps to build a deeper understanding of the world. It wasn 't just a diverse populace, as the students were active in promoting their culture through clubs and extracurriculars. It was inspiring to see so many students who were willing to share their various cultures proudly and be accepted for
How is my application different from others?Let me tell you why. For starters, I always try my best in all of my classes. Getting excellent grades feels like I've won the lottery because I get to see all of my hard work pay off. At first, I may come out as a very quiet and shy girl, but that’s only because I’m giving all of my attention to the teacher and the lesson plan. Every day I am excited to walk into class and learn about something new.
The public sphere is unique, as it pertains to many different organizations. Ultimately, public sphere can be defined as, “crucial to identifying the public good and to shaping both public and private strategies for pursuing it,” as scholar Craig Calhoun (2011) explains (p. 9). As it relates to The University of Southern California, public sphere describes the shared social reality of the school’s staff and students alike, in addition to the values and purpose that it instills in all of its members. In order to gain the admission necessary to attend such a highly acclaimed university, certain personal symbols and their agency must be emphasized to align with the values of the college and its designated admissions office. These were determined
Bridging the gap of communication by observing that she could read lips, I provided motivational feedback about how impressive that psychological skill was, in and of itself, enhancing her ability to perform. Later, as a Justice in the Student Government Association, my colleagues and I designed a seminar for underrepresented students. The message we delivered entailed the benefits and means by which they could attend college. Our goal of establishing their desire for higher education surpassed many expectations.
Each individual has something that makes them stand out from the rest of the crowd. My life goals, vision, determination, and confidence in success are what stick out to make a strong candidate for the Universities of California. My goal is to become advanced in computer science while also improving my skills in graphic design. The subjects of augmented and virtual reality have captivated ever since I first learned about it. The potential of these two seems almost limitless, anything one person is able to envision can become a reality.
