Aggressive humor can be used to victimize, belittle, and cause others some type of disparagement (Zillman 1983). This style of humor is consistent with superiority theory, which postulates that people make themselves feel better at another’s expense in order to achieve, or perceive that they have achieved, higher rank or status (de Koning & Weiss). Aggressive humor is negatively related to agreeableness and conscientiousness while positively related to neuroticism (Martin et al. 2003).
Applying aggressive humor in an organization is meant to manipulate or order team members through one's sense of superiority. However, people in favor of this humor expression often fail to notice the potential impacts it has on the team members (Ho et al,2011), In other words, the speaker builds his/her happiness on others’ sufferings.
