Canada has an undisputable reputation as a world leader in health promotion and population health. However, the current position of Canada as a champion of community-based health care system is not absolute. The implementation of public policies in support of the social determinants of health is not adequate, and the gap between social, financial and health inequalities, between the rich and the poor is growing. Government support for the health of the general population and the health of the most vulnerable groups of society continues to be well behind other first-world nations (Raphael, Curry-Stevens, & Bryant, 2008; Raphael, 2012). Despite unsatisfactory physical conditions, the executive branch of the Rekai Centre was capable of creating such favourable and productive working environment for the personnel, that in 2011 a full 50% of the Rekai staff – about 160 individuals in total – were employed with the organization for more than five years. According to the staff survey results, the personnel expressed improved satisfaction with their supervisors and the level of communication in organization, improved satisfaction with involvement in organizational decisions, safety of work environment, balance of work/family life, as well as with health in general (The Rekai Centres, 2014). To transfer myself into the nursing profession I have to build trustful and supportive environment within my future praxis setting. I also came to deep appreciation and comprehension of the fact, that if I, a newly graduated nurse, want to put myself into healthcare settings in a meaningful way, I have to try to acquire a position of the informal leader even within not very welcoming work
