When identifying with the five traditional departmental structures: functional product, customer, geographic and matrix departmentalization, you can describe the type of departmentalization that is seen in Bison’s organizational chart as a functional departmentalization. A functional departmental structure is based on the different business functions and expertise used to run the company. It is reflective of a top, down flow chart with a high ranking executive at the top and multiple middle managers in the middle that report to the top executive. The Canadian Armed force play a crucial role within the Canadian government and its success. They may have one of, if not the most important role of protecting Canadian and its citizens. This leaves the Canadian Armed Forces needed a direct and effective organizational structure to ensure their continued success. Since the inauguration of the Canadian Armed Forces, they have operated using the traditional or classic organizational structure. At the time it was the only way organizations operated but as time has gone on and organizational structures have evolved, the Canadian Armed Forces has elected to stay with the traditional organizational structure for the many advantages it gives them (Kerzner, 2013).
In my assessment Bison is fairly clear with respect to their organizational structure. Their structure vertically connects every job in the company to a higher level of management. When you view this structure it is clear of who reports to whom. For example seen on Bison’s organizational chart (ORG) provided, the CEO directly reports to the Owner Mr. Jessiman. The CEO holds the span of control and the authority to delegate line of authority to specific level s of management, for example you can see the Director of Business Development and Logistics, directly reports to the Vice President of Logistics and Multi Modal.

My past job Publix we used a departmentalization organizational structure. Publix is an employee owned supermarket. We are departmentalization organizational structure because we are separated by product and service.
