Presious healthcare provides home care to service users in their home, we work alongside other professionals to promote the service user’s wellbeing. An act of parliament is the primary legislation of the UK, the law. The act is passed by parliament. A regulation is a rule that’s written and sets out the ways the act will be enforced. In our company we have a designated Health and Safety representative who must take responsibility to monitor, record and report, these include risk assessments. Risk assessments are completed regarding the work we do, the environment where we work and the equipment we use. Then maintain records, stating who’s responsible for the task and ensure they are being carried out effectively. The assessment should be dated, including a review date and signature of all involved in the assessment, risk assessments are completed for activities and measurement put in place to minimise the risks. Ensure that the service user is at the centre (person centred approach) of all the decisions on how they choose to live their lives and ensuring they are aware of the risks they wish to take. We receive regular updates regarding changes that are reviewed to support the standards of legislation and comply with CQC regulations and recommendations. Health and safety policy Healthy and safety in a general practice surgery aims to keeping patients safe in the surgery. The responsibility of keeping service users safe should be on all the employees. The Health and Safety at Work Act imposes duties on employers and employees to protect individuals. To enable these duties to be carried out (Deepingspractice.co.uk, 2015) GP surgeries have a sharps bin, which is for the disposal of sharp instruments, such as needles. This bin should be kept open and not filled to a certain level because the lives of the patients may be at risk.

Individuality: all service users receiving care should be able to maintain their individuality by been able to choose what they were, who and when they socialize, the activities they join in with and maintain their own views and opinion. Choice: all service users receiving the care should be able to make their own choices from little things like mealtimes to when they get dressed to when they get out of bed but in different circumstances such as limited mental capacity sometimes choices can be made for them, but these are always in the best interests of the service user. By working with these values care workers have a good understanding of what is right and what is wrong in their job role, this is both best practice and embedded in legislation.
7 / D.P7: Explain how different procedures maintain health and safety in a selected health or social care setting Maintaining health and safety in health and social care is extremely important to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of all their service users as well as other individuals service providers may come in contact with in the setting. There are several procedures that help to maintain this health and safety however they can all vary between settings for example, health and safety procedures will be slightly different and more focused on certain areas in hospitals and especially in paediatric ward compared to in drop-in centres where the needs and risk to service users are slightly different. Some of the procedures used in health and social care to maintain health and safety include; infection control and prevention, safe moving and handling of equipment and individuals, food preparation and storage, storage and administration of medication and storage and disposal of hazardous substances.
