There are a lot of different stereotypes regarding fathers. The range from embarrassing their children, to spending a lot of time at work. People think most fathers live up to this expectation. In my opinion I don’t think Garp lives up to this stereotype, he has his own way of doing things. Even though Garp does relate to the stereotypical father in some ways, he usually does things out of the box in comparison. While he still embarrasses his children like a typical father, he also is aware that he does. People think fathers are clueless, and work too much therefore not spending a lot of time with their families. With Garp it is the opposite, he barely finds the time to write. He tries to write while his children are sleeping or out playing,
