“America’s chickens have come home to roost” is what Rev. Jeremiah Wright stated in sermons following the attacks of 9/11. Many people throughout the world share the same sentiment based on the actions the American Government has taken across the world both recently and throughout history. The American way of life would also lead people to justify the attacks of 9/11. The terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001 can in a certain way of thinking be justified. The world is often seen through two different sets of eyes, those of the persons or person in control of world affairs and events and differently of the ones on the opposite side of those world affair and events actions. One could say the United States was due to have a terrorist attack around in the nature of the 9/11 attacks due to …show more content…
These justifications don’t just come from recent history or events but significant events in the country’s history. One example would be the expansion of the United States from east coast to west coast in which the slaughter of Native Americans (Indians) was accepted so long as it was to further the United States push westward and making the country great. Another example would be treatment of African Americans through slavery for many decades in America’s history. The U.S was one of the last civilized nations to end slavery and this practice was then followed by several generations of deep rooted segregation and horrible treatment of African Americans. A third historical example of American actions that could justify attacks on 9/11 is the many “proxy” wars that the U.S Government has fought over many decades. The U.S
Stark compares European colonialism across the world and the Islamic fury due to Crusades as a motivation for the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center by Muslim terrorists (Tristano). European colonialism can be found in both the times of the Crusades and today. During the time of the Crusades, many of the Crusaders set out to spread Christianity; therefore, leading to the spread of Christianity. During the time of the Crusades, “the crusaders marched east not out of idealism, but in pursuit of lands and loots; that the Crusades were promoted by the power-mad popes seeking to greatly expand Christianity though conversion of Muslim masses” (Stark, 4). Whereas the United States is primarily Christian county (because of European colonialism), the Middle East is still primarily Muslim, leading to the next points of pursuit of land, loot, and power, as well as, and crime in need of atonement (Tristano).
• There are reports that the September 11 attacks killed 2,996 people and injured more than 6,000 Americans. These deaths included 265 that were on four aircraft, 2,606 deaths just within the World Trade Center and surrounding areas, and the Pentagon had 125 deaths. These deaths weren’t necessary if the government was behind this evil intention just to bring Americans together for support of a war against another nation.
A great terror struck our nation September 11, 2001, two aircraft’s hit the world trade centers, killing 2000 people and injuring over twice as many. A third aircraft flew into the Pentagon while a fourth crashed in a rural area in Pennsylvania. This day will forever be engrained into history as one of the worst terror attacks faced in this nation. Nearly three years later, in an attempt to figure out what happened on that tragic day, scholars came together to discuss the possible parallels between foreign and domestic terrorist. The author, Michael Kimmel, outlines the possible cause of the 2001 attacks and offers us a link between both foreign and domestic terrorism.
The Human-race is most vulnerable when it feels as if its life is at risk. With the attacks on American soil, people everywhere will be looking for someone to blame. In the film Fahrenheit 9/11 By Michael Moore, Moor attempts to bring answers to the American people. He states that the corruption of President Bush is what led the United States the go into an unjust war. His use of persuasion is what led Americans to believe him, when they were in their most vulnerable state.
I remember a teacher walking into my English classroom to tell my English teacher that a plane had crashed into one of the Twin Towers. At that point, it was unclear what had happened, and it wasn 't until the second plane crashed that it became clear that it was a terrorist attack. Since that day, there has been an increase in border security and more surveillance activity on
Before the terrible event of 9/11 many United States citizens could agree that they felt generally safe living in the U.S. People could live their lives and not worry about an attack against them or their love ones. Everyone was friendly and opened to each other because there was no fear. But, unfortunately the views of everyday living have changed as a result of the attacks on the United States. The continued threat of terrorism has affected the lives of Americans in negative ways. 9/11 has made a big impact and has effected U.S citizens for many reasons.
The events that occurred on September, 11, 2001 were among the most catastrophic events in American history. The events of the day were summarized as 19 militants associated with the terror group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out targeted attacks in the United States. Out of the four planes, two of them were flown into the World Trade Center in New York, a third one into the Pentagon in Washington and the fourth one crashing off course into a field. The attacks resulted in the deaths of over 3000 people and the beginning of a soon to come American counter terrorism policy and the subsequent invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. Although there are a lot of conspiracy theories around the real motives and players behind the attack,
The 9/11 tragedy was a moment where people had their guard up at all times. This was a time where life had strike to reality of time warfare with every person and country. Couldn’t trust no one that came to the U.S. America is the land of the free and the home of the brave, were brave because the generations before us had to face what had happened and to what is going to happen. This had left the buildings torn instantly killing hundreds of many people, getting them stuck in the higher floors. This attack was the worst in America ever since the Pearl Harbor All over our nation saw a major impact of devastation in the face of the September 9, 2001attacks.
government was to blame. Even though the Muslims were assumed to have orchestrated the terrorist attack, the American people knew that the Bush administration wanted to go to war in the Middle East, which led to the assumption that the government and Bush himself had something to do with the tragic event (Norman). Society felt that in order to feel safe, someone or something else needed to take responsibility for the catastrophe. Many people blamed the American government for the attacks because it was “…a way of reacting to uncertainty and powerlessness (Koerth-Baker). Feeling helpless, the American people questioned the true events of the September 11 attacks.
The shock and disbelief of 9/11 revealed that America felt that something like this could not possibly happen to us. It showed that the security of our country had been compromised
Historical Context On September 11, 2001, terrorists attacked the Unites States. They hijacked airplanes in mid-flight. The terrorists flew two of the planes into two skyscrapers at the World Trade Center in New York City. During the attacks, there were 2,996 people killed and more than 6,000 others wounded.
”is logical that America was attacked since it is known for its opportunities and freedom which makes it a target for terrorism. The 9/11 tragedy was a scary awakening for America and the world. President Bush used the emotions of the country to communicate his platform and brought the country together.
All of these events demonstrated that al-Qaeda could carry out terrifying attacks thousands of miles away from its base in Afghanistan. Al- qaeda’s leaders did not care about their gruesome actions. In their minds, God was on their side so they could do no wrong. Many people to this day still question our government about the 9/11 attacks and why someone did not take action before it got to this point.
9/11: The Day That Changed America Forever On September 11, 2001, nineteen terrorists boarded four planes, all transcontinental flights full of jet fuel. 9/11 became the first of many hijackings in the United States. The terrorists turned two flights into flying weapons of destruction, knocking down America’s tallest buildings. The third plane rammed into the Pentagon and the fourth plane was crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.
“Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.” George W. Bush delivered this speech on the night of the September 11 attacks. The shattered steel of the Twin Towers, once towering the New York City skyline, forever changed America and its response to terrorism. The largest foreign attack on U.S. soil appropriately gave reason to Americans to recoil in fear and lose trust in the future, but in reality, the country displayed the opposite reaction.
