In general movies and television do not provide a realistic picture of American life. Life shown in movies and television are dramatized, adventurous and full of fantasy compare to the normal American life.
The first reason, why movies and television do not generally provide a realistic picture of American life is how dramatized they are. I know that television and movies need drama to sell and get ratings up but there is no need to literally cry over spilled milk.
