Research has shown that teenagers experience a change in their internal sleep clocks so that waking up early and going to sleep early are difficult. Some schools are deciding to begin later in the day and end later in the day to accommodate students’ natural sleep clocks. I believe that schools should begin and end later in the day. Schools should begin and end later in the day because students would be more alert in their class, students would be more interactive in class, and students would get better grades. First, students would be more alert in their classes. Usually when schools are on a regular schedule there are a lot of students who are absent or tardy. As those regular schedule days go on, many students get …show more content…
When it comes to students grades on a regular scheduled school day, grades are usually low due to students being too tired to do their homework. However, if school were to begin and end later in the day I think that students GPA’s would improve dramatically. Schools that begin and end later, can help their students to not be as tired when school is over and can give them more courage to do their required work. Finally, students could have more time to study for important test and ask question they might have about lessons they learned that day. Although I believe schools should end and begin later in the day, others may disagree with my choice. Others think that school should not end and begin later. They believe that schools ending and beginning later will cause students grades to drop, give students less time for extracurricular activities, and may give students less time to do their homework. Schools should begin and end later in the day because students would be more alert in their class, students would be more interactive in class, and students would get better grades. If schools begin and end early it can help students be more alert in classes. If schools begin and end early students can be more interactive in classes If schools begin and end early students grades could increase. Even though, others may disagree with schools ending and beginning later I believe it can be easier on
Should School Start Later? Will it actually be a huge advantage for students to attend school later in the day? This has been a rising argument over the years, and the health of teens, because of their increased tiredness has been an increasing concern of parents, and teachers and supervisors. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has been urging schools to start at later times such as 8:30 to ensure that students get adequate amounts of sleep every night (Source 2).
Having later start times can benefit kids in many ways such as improving their grades. When schools have later start times, students can wake up later and be more awake leading to them being more attentive in class and getting better grades. Researcher Finley Edwards “Found that math scores improved by 2 percentile points and reading scores by 1 point in middle schools that moved to a later start time.” Students might end up being tired in class because they didn't sleep long enough the night before leading to them not learning in class that may result in worse grades that the student is capable. Students grades and staying on task can be improved by having schools start later.
If school starts later kids could get more sleep and if kids get more sleep they’re less likely to develop bad health issues. In fact, middle school should start later.
Why Should School Start Later Sleeping is important for kids that are in middle school because they have to wake up early to go to school. I believe school should start at a later time such as 9 o’clock in the morning. Three reasons why school should start later is because, kids are not sleeping enough hours during the night, kids may not have enough time to eat breakfast and if kids are tired and hungry they tend to be less productive in class. As a matter of fact if school started at a later time kids would be able to eat a healthy breakfast, be more productive in school and have a good night sleep. Why are kids not sleeping enough hours at night before going to school?
Kids spend all day playing sports and all night trying to finish their homework. If school was later kids could go to bed after their sports and wake up and finish their homework before school. Even if they wake up at 6 to get it finished they probably have plenty of time to get it done, and they still have a better sleep then when they went to school at 8. Many kids have a hard time getting to bed before 11, but if we had school later kids could make up their lack of sleep by sleeping in later.
School should Start Later School districts should make a change to their schedule. School starting later would fix a bunch of huge problems about school districts. Some people may say that school starting early isn’t that bad though, it would just be annoying to wake up early. School districts should change their time because of the bus arrival times, the education of students, and sleep concerns of kids.
School days should start later for junior high and high school Students because it can cause problems for teens. Doctors have figured out during the ages 13-18; students bodies start to release a chemical in the brain that causes them not to able to go to sleep at times before eleven o’ clock. Which can cause a numerous problems with health which can effect students especially at school .They also found out during theses age groups they need nine to nine and a half hour of sleep to be able to function in school; 60% to 70% of teens in America suffer from Sleep deprivation which can cause heart disease, diabetes, strike, and heart failure ,ect.
School Should Start Later A recent poll conducted by the National Sleep Foundation found that 60% of children under the age of 18 complained of being tired during the day, according to their parents, and 15% said they fell asleep at school during the year. This proves that kids aren’t getting enough sleep before school. I believe that a later middle school start time would have many beneficial effects on kids. As a result, kids would be more focused in class because they would be getting more sleep, that would lead to better grades, and finally reduced absenteeism.
She cites a study that found that students who start school later have higher grades and test scores than those who start earlier. Additionally, students who get more sleep are more likely to be engaged in class and retain information better. By allowing students to get the sleep they need, schools can help them perform better academically and set them up for success in the future. Thirdly, Snyder provides examples of schools that have successfully implemented later start times and seen positive results.
Imagine the benefits of having later start times for high school students. This controversial subject has been discussed by professionals over the past few years, some argue the start times are too early for teens while others tend to disagree. High school students should have later start times because it benefits their grades, their amount of sleep, and also provides advantages for the parents and School Board. By delaying the start times of the school, studies have shown improvements in grades and performance in teens. A study done by the University of Minnesota shows that by setting back start times for school showed an increase in grades 10th-12th.
Many people argue whether school start times should stay the same or become later in the day. Most students already don't get enough sleep during the night and that can affect their learning experience in school (Wahlstrom). However some positive effects can still come from waking up early in the morning and getting to school around the same time. Although good can come from waking up early in the morning and sleeping in, students still need later school starting times to improve their overall health.
I feel that school should start later in the day. In my next few paragraphs I will talk about, the acceptable things about starting school later in the day and the crummy parts about starting school later in the day. Starting school later in the day could help with test scores, seep, and absentees. Kids with more rest can think better since their minds are not so focused on sleep, and they more focused on the work that they need to do which would help with tests. If kids receive more sleep their bodies could fight off more diseases and bacteria.
I’m pretty sure most people hate getting up super early in the morning to get to school. Am I right? Well I think it’s the worst! In my opinion, I think school should start later because it is better for one’s health and it’s better for students’ concentration in class.
This is an important issue because starting schools later has many positive effects. Some positive effects of starting school later is improvements in grades, test scores, and overall performance in core subjects. Another positive effect of starting schools later is that students will be more attentive, have a better memory, a better mood, and a better behavior and executive function. A third positive effect of starting school later is that it gives students the extra sleep they need to perform at the body’s peak ability in academics and physical
Also less teens get in car crashes and are at a big risk for drugs, alcohol, depression, even suicide. Teens get in crashes because they do not get enough sleep at night. Another is that grades up when teens sleep in and absences drop by 15% in Bonneville by starting school later. These are both examples why school should start later in the day. If we start school later absences would possibly go down like Bonneville did and grades will possibly go up as well, too.
