Did you know that the book “ Of Mice and Men” was banned countless times because of Steinbeck's nefarious language, violence, and racism that is said in the book. The navel “Of Mice and Men” written by John Steinbeck is a story about two men named George Milton and Lennie Small that want the American dream. Everytime George and Lennie find an agreeable job Lennie tends to mess it up. George did the right thing by killing Lennie because Lennie would of suffered if he let Curly deal with him, lennie might of hurt someone else, and he wouldn’t be able to survive on his own if George let him run away.
What could be so terrible about a book, that it has become one of the most frequently banned/challenged books? Of Mice and Men is a fictional book written by John Steinbeck in 1937. The book has been banned in many schools due to racism, profanity, foul language, violence, treatment of women, and for seemingly promoting euthanasia. This book is usually read by high school students around the age fourteen or fifteen, however many parents have gotten upset when hearing about what their kid was reading. Many parents have stated that this book is not age-appropriate and should not be read in school.
Just because a book that was written many decades ago may have bad words in it, doesn’t mean that it should be withheld from the students. Additionally, the educational value of, The Catcher in the Rye would be totally lost if a book is banned just for containing “explicit” language. Sophomore students are at the age where they are old enough to know what is appropriate and what isn’t and they can read a book that has bad words in it. If a book is banned because of its explicit content, that overshadows the educational content and the moral lessons that the reader would take away from reading this book.

In the banned book Gone, students could be able to learn positive and outgoing lessons from the book if they weren't banned in many places. Teens should be allowed to read Gone because it teaches students to show confidence, it shows to be hard working, and it also shows independance. Furthermore, restraining a child’s exposure to that language may hinder that child’s interaction with the world outside of academics. In many cases, the profanity used in Of Mice and Men is dated or seldom used. This is because the book was published in 1937, in a time when different words were considered offensive. For example, a character named Candy refers to a promiscuous woman as a “tart” as opposed to the modern day counterpart, “slut” or “whore”.
If you had a choice in helping out your best friend, or helping yourself, who would you choose? In the story “Of Mice And Men”, George chose himself, and he was justified in killing his best friend Lennie. This is because if George didn't kill Lennie, then Curly would've, and it would've been extremely harmful. He was also justified because Lennie wasn't mentally stable. As I said before, if George didn't end up killing Lennie, then Curly would've and it would've been much more harmful.
