Explain Why The Book Of Mice And Men Should Be Banned

This book was challenged because of sexual scenes and vulgar language. I do not think this book was reasonably challenged because there are so many other books with more vulgar language and sexual scenes than this book. I think it was unfair to challenge this book. Also none of the sexual scenes or language is that excessive or graphic. I think it is okay for this book to remain in the high school library.

The announcement of a new, censored, version of Mark Twain’s classic, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn sparked controversy across the United States regarding which version provides the better educational experience. Even though the revised publication may be more politically correct in the present day, it dampens the milieu of the story. Additionally, the argument for censorship in the novel is weak considering the social discomfort created from word ‘nigger’ can be used to form an educational lesson or discussion. The original edition of the novel provides would be a better a inclusion to an educational curriculum because it includes improved syntax when compared to Alan Gribben’s publication.

The book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is one of the most challenged pieces of literature in school systems today. Challenged meaning, being the subject of debate on whether or not it should be banned. The reason for the challenge is largely due to the profanity that finds its way into the story. This raises many questions as to whether or not this profanity should be exposed to children or endorsed by the school system. Although the use of profanity in the book Of Mice and Men may lead to dangers of children using those bad words more frequently, the use of it in the story allows teachers to explore the use of profanity and its effect on the english language. Furthermore, restraining a child’s exposure to that language may hinder that child’s interaction with the world outside of academics.

The book has been banned in many schools due to racism, profanity, foul language, violence, treatment of women, and for seemingly promoting euthanasia. This book is usually read by high school students around the age fourteen or fifteen, however many parents have gotten upset when hearing about what their kid was reading. Many parents have stated that this book is not age-appropriate and should not be read in school. However, in my opinion this book should not be banned.

The captivating story of Ponyboy Curtis and the rivalry between the greasers and the socs has been praised and loved by many for years because of its accurate depiction of what it's like to be a teen, unfortunately this novel has been banned by many schools across the country. The Outsiders should not be banned at Astoria High School. This novel should not be banned because teens are mature enough to handle any mature content this book has, it is a classic book that many enjoy and that students should be able to experience, and banning this book is unnecessary censorship and pushes beliefs onto others.

They claim that the book has many redeeming qualities about it, and also is a great tool for teaching students reading and analytical skills. Multiple characters throughout the novel disregard the law in order to carry out their vision of justice. When Curley, the son of the ranch owner, discovers his wife’s body, he is furious. So furious that he plans to track Lennie, a new employee with an intellectual disability, down and murder him to get revenge for his mistake. Regardless of the law, Curley’s morals based on vengeance and masculinity drive him to kill Lennie. George has very different morals based on protecting Lennie, his travel companion and friend. His ultimate goal of helping Lennie leads to him ending Lennie’s life in order to prevent his suffering at the hands of Curley.
