The Russian Revolution of 1917 marked one of the most radical turning points in the country’s 1,300-year history and established the Soviet Union as a Communist state. Russia in the 19th century was a massive empire stretching from Poland to the Pacific. Ruling such a massive country was quite the undertaking, especially because the long-term problems within Russia were approaching the surface. In 1917, these problems finally produced a revolution, which completely wiped the old system away. The Russian Revolution was a rebellion executed by the Russian people against the Russian elite.
Karl Liebknecht once said, “The Russian revolution was to an unprecedented degree the cause of the proletariat of the whole world becoming more revolutionary.” The revolution was a result of tension and disaffection for the Russian people. The Russian revolution was accountable with how Russia withdrew WW1 because of the destruction it brought forth to the Russian economy. The Russian revolution was caused by hard labor, unprepared leaders, and how Russia was industrially behind.
The Causes of the French Revolution The French Revolution was a ten year period began on July 14, 1789 and ended in 1799, considered one of the most complicated, long and full of events revolutions. This revolution is examined by the historians as a fundamental course of history because the unification of France evoked a series of rebellions which created confusion, mess, chaos, ending with revolutions through all Europe like Italy, Romania and Germany. The factor which affected France the most and led to the revolution during the late 1700’s was the enlightenment, an intellectual movement that challenged the way people view the human condition. The enlightenment radically influenced the French and the American Revolution as
Source 1 is from a textbook used to educate people in the Soviet Union in 1948. It is boasting about the tremendous success that socialism has had in the USSR, and how everyone except the “exploiting class” love it and have benefited from it. It also talks about the betterment of the Soviet Union because of the Great Purges and war communism finally being achieved. This source rejects liberalism because it is not stating the truth, but rather what the government allows the publishing agency of the textbook to say. There is no transparency towards the people by the government.
On October 24 - 25 the Bolshevik party led Russian workers and peasants to revolution, under the slogan of: "All power to the Soviets". On October 25 - 26, the Second All-Russia Congress of Soviets met and created the Soviet Government through the elections of a new Council of People's Commissars and Central Executive Committee. The new government resolved to begin construction on a Socialist society, but soon encountered extreme obstacles: while attempting to come to peace with all warring nations, only Germany agreed to peace (see the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk). When World War I ended, fresh off the battlefields of the Western Front, the Entente powers (US, UK, France, Japan, etc) invaded Russia from all directions, assisted by tsarist generals
The intense economic relationship between the peasants and the Tsar created tension that led to the revolution. In document 3 it states, “…By world war 1, Russia still had the lowest industrial output of any major European power”. This is significant because it suggests that Russia's economy was not as developed or modernized as other European countries. At the time period, industrialization was a key factor in the economy. “Men soon joined them, and on the following day almost every industry, shop and business had stopped functioning - the entire populace went on strike”(document
With no signs of the czar’s attempt to solve the complications, Russia banded together and filled the streets with strikes and riots. A revolution was peaking among the peasants. The uprising brought Nicholas ll no choice but to abdicate his throne. This was an opportunity
Based on how history people starving and Czar Nicholas 2 doing whatever he wanted was the main cause of the Russian Revolution. During this time people were being rationed for food because of the costly war effort. Along with the people going hungry Czar Nicholas 2 was constantly dissolving the Duma to get what he wanted. People started to lose faith in him due to government corruption and the way he was letting his people starve. People began to riot and the soldiers that were sent to end their rebellion defected to their cause and helped them to get rid of Czar Nicholas 2.
The Russian Revolution is a governmental overthrow of a ruling that took place in the early twentieth century. Prior to the revolution, Russia was ruled by Czar Nicholas II who was a part of the last reigning Russian monarch, the Tsar. The Tsar had complete power in Russia as he owned much of the land, commanded the army, and controlled the church. During the reign of the Tsar, the Russian citizens were treated badly and unfair. They experienced vigorous labor in dangerous conditions for little pay and were without food and money countless times.
The French Revolution and the Russian Revolution have an astronomical amount of similarities. Such as in their government, the poverty/class structure and the radical uprisings. For example, both countries had strict rule, France having absolute monarchy and Russia having autocracy, prior to the revolutions. Poverty and bread shortages were very common amongst the peasantry during both revolutions. Another example is they both had a high populations of peasants and workers in their time.
The Russian Revolution, which was started by Lenin and his followers, was a rebellion that occurred in 1917 which forced higher powers to act to the needs of the lower class. For instance, many citizens were worried for their protection in consequence to the lack of survival necessities due to an early drought. Furthermore, their current czar during the time was incapable for his position as a czar and made horrendous decisions as czar. For example, when the czar, Nicholas, entered in World War I, he sent untrained troops into countless battles of failure which costed in mass amounts of lost life (paragraph 23).
By doing this, they overthrown the poorly run government as the Russian people were in favour of a new system that would work in their favour. The Russian Revolution was triggered by the social, political and economic problems, that combined caused the Russian people to rebel. This Revolution was triggered by the poverty of the Russian people, the loss from the wars, the sneakiness of Rasputin and the failure of the Tsar, Nicholas II. The social causes of the Russian Revolution arose from centuries of oppression towards the lower classes.
Mostly, revolutions happen in similar patterns and have comparable causes and effects. The main important causes for revolution are governmental and political corruption and colonization. In addition, revolution has many positive and negative effects. Many revolutions started because of government corruption.
