I. Introduction; The term Personality is obtained from a latin word Persona which refers to a theoretical mask worn by performers in order to project different roles or disguise their identities. Personality is the dynamic organization within an individual of the psychophysical systems that determine the individuals characteristic behaviour and thought. (Allport,1961). Personality thus can briefly be defined as being made up of characteristic patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviours that make a person unique. In addition to this, personality is what arises from within the individual and remains fairly consistent throughout life. Eysenck looked at Personality as a hierarchy of traits. There are various factors that affect personality these can range from environmental factors, physical factors, situational factors, biological factors as well as psychological factors and others. Assessment of personality To assess personality means to evaluate it. Only by evaluating personality one can understand the reason for problems and then decide on a mode of action. Assessment techniques differ in their degree of objectivity or subjectivity. The different techniques of assessment include the following, Self-report or objective inventories- a personality assessment technique in which individuals answer questions about their behaviours and feelings. Projective technique- In these techniques individuals are understood to project personal needs, fears and values into their interpretation of description of an ambiguous stimulus. Clinical Interviews- it includes clinical interviews armed with the results of other paper pencil or projective tests which are usually administered during a series of or before interview sessions.
