The absence of the mimic expression of smile and laughter is a result of the dysfunction of the facial muscles levator anguli oris, depressor anguli oris, zygomaticus major and zygomaticus minor. First, the levator anguli oris raises the corners of the mouth. Then, the depressor anguli oris depresses and draws the corner of the mouth laterally. Next, the zygomaticus major elevates the corners of the mouth up and draw them in laterally.
Appearances are really deceptive; They do not show a person's true self. Judging a person based on their looks is not truthful. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee this happens plenty of times. The book To Kill a Mockingbird is about all the craziness in Maycomb, Alabama. In the book the Atticus, Jem, Scout, Tom Robinson and many others deal with Maycomb’s usual “disease”: racism.
In several eye-witness accounts, it is described as having a dog or panther-like face, a forked tongue, and large fangs. It is said to hiss and screech when alarmed, as well as to leave a sulfuric stench behind. This second variety is also bipedal and has coarse fur. The third form is a strange breed of wild dog that is hairless and has a pronounced spinal ridge. In addition, it has prominent eye sockets, teeth, and claws, but is otherwise a typical canine.
The novel Unmasking the Face by Paul Ekman and Wallace V. Friesen was very interesting. It provided information on how to read six different emotions on the face. The book served as a guide to help understand emotions that people portray on their face. The guide focused on six main emotions: surprise, fear, disgust, anger, happiness, and sadness. In addition to all of emotions it explained the different types of signals that can appear on the face.
Along with understanding our own emotions and being aware of how we are feeling. It might be a challenge for me since many times it relies on non-verbal cues, such as facial expressions, body language, and tone of voice, which are not direct. Furthermore, I am not sure if I can interpret non-verbal cues that are critical for understanding and responding to emotions accurately. I feel like I do not have enough experience yet to be able to intensify emotions cues accurately. However, to improve emotional understanding I can focus on my own development and engagement by self-reflection and self-awareness.
Near the junction between a single ancestral species branching off into two distinctive species, there will undoubtedly be large similarities between the two species. These similarities are expected to diminish over many generations as the two species become reproductively incompatible. However, If we consider the "grey area" that is the time between two strains of a species becoming reproductively distinct, we can why it is so advantageous for distinguishable facial features to arise; distinct facial features serve as a form of genetic authentication that allows identification of individuals with certain genes. These are the exact genotypic traits that must be propagated in a subset of the ancestral species for a budding new species to adapt to a new environment and/or escape the competition for resources from the original ancestral species by developing a niche. Hence, two characterizing features of primates with distinguishable facial features are genetic diversity and capacity for adaptive radiation.
Even judging by actions is not right because things can be meant to help, but can instead result in something going wrong. Something that one person sees as disastrous could be seen as good by another person based on what each person knows and the intention. Thus, judging by actions is still not an effective way to judge a person, one must only judge by what is unseen; personality, morals, and intentions. There are many places where one can see how judging based on appearance affects people. The message, wherever it may be, is still the same.
For another person, a “crooked smile” could be weight, height, or hair color. Anything that makes an individual feel insecure. Women especially voice these insecurities that are flaws by the public eye, when in fact they are what makes every woman unique in their own way. Uplifting lyrics, “I can tell you ain’t laughed in a while, but I wanna see that crooked smile” help embrace imperfections and let women know that its all right to smile about things. Every woman deserves pure happiness no matter what they do or do not
Similar to the traditional approach, when using computer-aided 3D facial reconstruction, it is also necessary to assess the characteristics of the skull. Using this anatomical information alongside scanning technology, the computer can model the soft tissue depths onto a virtually generated image of the skull (Lee et al., 2011). The reconstructed computer image can then be altered instantaneously depending on whatever facial features need to be added. The image can also be sent via the internet or made accessible on the web for further dissemination into a wider community (Clement & Marks, 2005). The advantages of the computerised approach over the traditional approach are numerous, and include increased efficiency, rapid editing capability
This theory was made by Michael Argyle (1925- 2002), who was a social psychologist. In the late 1960s he studied social skills, body language, non-verbal communication and interpersonal behaviour. In this study, he found that non-verbal signals can be much more important and useful than verbal communication when trying to trigger peoples’ attitudes and feelings. His research showed and found that the stronger the relationship between the people communicating so with close friends for example the much better eye contact. However, when the relationship is not very strong so when speaking to a stranger people don’t have very good eye contact and they tend to look away when talking.
Appearances can be Deceiving Everyone’s personality does not always fit their appearance. You can look scary and be the nicest person in the world, or the other way around. For instance, in the Monsters Inc. movie most of the monsters really scary, but on the inside were some of the nicest monsters in the whole movie. Eye contact also plays a vital role in effective communication. There are times when we experience words that come out of our mouth and the ways we communicate through our body language are totally different. In this kind of situation, the receiver has to determine whether to believe verbal or nonverbal message. Regularly the receiver would select the nonverbal as it is more natural and it truly displays the speaker’s true feeling and intention. The gestures such as the way we sit, how fast and how loud we talk and how much eye contact we make send strong messages to the receiver.
