The common perception is that smart and physically fit people excel in a variety of activities such as sports, extra- curricular and academics. Smartness and Fitness have long been associated with the academic performance. Students are required to do work round the clock. Assignments, projects, home-works, etc all bombard them and there is a pressure on them to cope with those tasks well and perform excellently.
So, it is imperative that diagnostic studies are carried out to identify the major factors that are associated with the academic performance. This study was, therefore, designed to identify and analyze some determinants of academic performance (as measured by CGPA) of students of IBA. A survey instrument, questionnaire, was administered

Hence we carried out a survey to find out the effect of one’s physical and mental profile on his/her grades.
The purpose of this report was to initiate a discussion on the possible causal factors and ways of addressing them so that academic performance can be improved. BMI is an important figure because it is believed that fitness plays an important role in one’s performance in all aspects of life. And it has been held that one’s IQ score determines one’s academic success.
The purpose of this exploratory study was, therefore, to identify and analyze the factors that influence academic performance. The study sought to define relationships between selected student factors (demographic information, and high school achievements) and academic performance (measured in terms of CGPA). A formal study of this nature contributes towards unraveling those significant determinants of students’ performance that need to be addressed.

The questionnaire form was pre-tested randomly among 10 students before administering them to proper respondents to ensure the validity and reliability of the data gathered. Primary data is the first hand information collected from respondents, which included characteristics of respondents such as weight, education level, height, IQ scores, CGPA and age structure as well as soliciting information on what respondents believed about their academic information in their high schools. Due to resources constraints in terms of finance, availability of research assistants, inadequate time and respondents’ willingness to participate in the study, the survey was not conducted on a wide scale. The following survey was conducted through printed questionnaires on campus to obtain the responses of IBA students. Stratified Random sampling and convenience sampling were done to gather the primary data. The qualitative aspect of the study employed semi-structures interviews. Semi-structured interviews are credited as appropriate to the collection of data on a topic that lacks previous studies on that study area. Here, the researcher uses a predetermined set of open-ended and yet flexible questions which allow the interviewer to diverge from the guide to pursue other details with respect to the study. Qualitative data was obtained about their studying patterns and diet. This was done to ensure rapport with the
Main Argument and Thesis The main point of the article is that diets can often be dependent upon geographic surroundings. Diets can provide essential nutrients and minerals in various ways. Supporting Evidence The authors, Patricia Gadsby and Leon Steele, support their main point through using nutritional evidence, referencing scientific studies, and providing dialogue from multiple individuals.
In David G. Burnet High School, the AEIS and TAPR data reports were both providing students’ academic performance rate in Reading, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science for the years 2006- 2007. For example, 79% of student met the standard in Reading in 2007. In 2005-2006, both reports showed the annual dropout rate for grade 7-8. The AEIS and TAPR data reports have presented the students attendance rate (93.1 %). Additionally, in the class of 2006, both reports showed 55.6 % of the students took the SAT or ACT tests.
The dataset used in the analysis is the grades.dat; it was used to analyze the performance of the students in the GPA and the final. The dataset includes information collected from the survey of 105 students and includes variables such as performance and demographic variables. The variable GPA measures the performance
Starting to really care for a good grade at a young age matters. But what some school boards don 't notice it that individual grades are going down. Sure many schools have the smart honor roll kids, but behind that are a bunch of D’s and F’s students. “The importance of physical fitness in the development of cognitive and memory skills have long been extolled by scientists. Cardiorespiratory capacity, muscular strength, and motor ability are components of physical fitness that have been known to improve mental health” (Iyer 1).
I’m going to write more on Grant Penrod article ‘Why We Hate the Smart Kid’s’. I agree with Penrod, he is trying to let us know academics is just as important as the athletes are. For many student’s school is the best time for them. You have some who come to play sports and some who come for the academics. In any high school, you have a lot of different groups or cliques like jocks, stoners, nerds and many more.
Mental Health: An Issue Among Student-Athletes Stress has been an increasing issue regarding not only college students, but also student-athletes. Imagine the workload of any normal college student. Then imagine on top of academics, playing a sport which occupies the remaining available time within your day and weekend. This is the life of a student-athlete. Many student-athletes are able to handle the schedule and pressure that one faces in the collegiate environment, but some cannot.
According to , students who exercise or do sports perform better on tests than kids who do
What some may oversee is that grades and scores can give insight to certain characteristics, such as work ethic. Those who work hard in school are generally the ones that receive good grades. Also, a student’s will to improve themselves is very important. For example, if there is a trend for one’s grades improving over the four years of high school, this is a sure sign of a promising future. One year or class shouldn’t determine someone’s acceptance into college.
Rationale From observation majority of the students are faced with social, personal and academic challenges. They are at the stage Identity
First, I will describe the relationship between exercise and academic performance. Many studies have been conducted to explore this relation, one being a University of Illinois study in which students age 9 to 10 were tested on their endurance by running on a treadmill. After
Grades, however, do not truly reflect the intelligence of an individual. ”(Source A) This statement provides many good examples of strong characteristics that can be found in people that earn good grades. This is important because it shows that this argument is not discrediting people who receive these high marks. However, this list of reflection possibilities helps show precisely why good grades and intelligence are not directly correlated. For example, it is very easy for students to lose motivation to complete their school work.
A study shows that “The exercise programs may actually enhance the development of specific types of mental processing known to be important, for meeting challenges encountered both in academics and later in life.” Also, the athletes are improved since high school. The kids that play sports have a higher chance to be smarter, and be physically well. The best part of sports is that you can improve major parts of your life, which is physical health, psychological health, social skills, and academic
According to the article How Physical Fitness May Promote School Success, children who take part in physical activity absorb and retain new information more effectively than other students who are out of shape. This suggests, that to help students do better in school and in the classroom, they should make physical education mandatory. With physical activity present in a young students daily routine, they tend to have better grades. The article Physical Education Should be a Mandatory Class all Four Years of High School informs the reader that, According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, physical education doesn’t just lower the risk of diseases later in life but also improves focus in the classroom. In other words, P.E doesn’t just lower the risk of obesity and heart failure, it helps students in the classroom which is an even better reason to keep it around because it has multiple
Grades are just numbers. They do not measure intelligence, in the same way that age doesn 't define maturity. At least once, majority of students in school have experienced getting poor grades. These grades are forcing them to be “smart” and, to such a great extent, they feel stressed and pressured. In fact, grades actually do extra harm to them than good since they have negative effects on students’ mental health.
Students are most essential asset for any educational institute. The social and economic development is directly linked with student academic performance. The students’ performance plays an important role in producing the best quality graduates who will become great leader and manpower for the country thus responsible for the country’s economic and social development. Student academic performance measurement has received considerable attention in previous research, it is challenging aspects of academic literature, and science student performance are affected due to social, psychological, economic, environmental and personal factors. These factors strongly influence on the student performance, but these factors vary from person to person (Irfan Mushtaq and Shabana Nawaz
