This research study is all about the factors that affect student’s behavior in class. The main purpose of the study is to knowthe different reason of misbehavior attitude of the 20th century students and it focuses on the factors that apparently affect the student’s behavior inside the classroom positively or negatively. Knowing these facts about the factors that can be related to the behavior of students can base the school program for them to enhance classroom conditions and services for students. This study benefits teachers and parents, most especially the students themselves because they can learn different techniques on how to assess theirselves in terms of their behavior in class. Through this study, parents can help students to achieve …show more content…
It is usually reported by teachers that these king of misbehaving in class is intolerable and they need to spend more on energy in managing these behaviors in room. To lessen the effect of misbehavior of the students, we must know the factors that exactly affect student’s behavior in class. In the literature, different terms have been used to describe problematic behaviors of students. For instance, Stewart et al. referred student misconduct to disciplinary violations in school, for instance, tardiness, vandalism, fighting, stealing, and drinking on campus. When there are explicit rules and regulations in school and classroom, violation of these is apparently a “misbehavior or misconduct or discipline problem.” Nevertheless, a particular behavior is viewed as problematic may not necessarily be rule breaking, but inappropriate or disturbing in the classroom setting. For instance, daydreaming in class, not completing homework, talking in class, lesson disruption, bullying, and rudeness to the teacher are named as “problem behaviors”, “behavior problems,” or “disruptive behaviors”. These behaviors referred to “an activity that causes distress for teachers, interrupts the learning process and that leads teachers to make continual comments to the student” , or “the myriad activities which …show more content…
The aim of this study was toidentify the factors that affect student’s behavior that were perceived as the most common, the most disruptive to teaching and learning in classroom, and the most unacceptable problem behavior and the reasons. This study attempted to replicate the previous studies in examining the problem behaviors perceived by teachers as the most common and disruptive. In addition, this study further attempted to investigate the most unacceptable problem behaviors in the eyes of teachers and the underlying reasons behind. There are some studies that were conducted a decade ago but some of them did not focus on the factors that affect student’s behavior in class. This study attempted to replicate the previous studies in examining the problem behaviors perceived by teachers as the most common and disruptive. In addition, this study further attempted to investigate the most unacceptable problem behaviors in the eyes of teachers and the underlying reasons behind. It was expected by the researchers that the result in the study would be a great help to teachers, students and especially to the
These include turning in work late, skipping class, and wearing clothes that aren’t in dress code. Because of the lack of consequences, students continue to engage in these activities and the behavior spreads. At the beginning
Before exploring ways of managing behaviours and supporting children positively within the classroom/school environment I will be looking at the characteristics that influence particular behaviours. Which can be or become disruptive to a child’s social and emotional wellbeing, their learning and consequently negatively impact both themselves and those around
At Meachem, there is a student who is punished for leaving the classroom on his own accord, yet when he acts out in class, the teacher will often send him into the hallway. This sends the student a mixed message on appropriate and inappropriate behavior. A way to integrate best practice in this situation is to sit down with the student and teacher and establish ground rules for appropriate behavior. One should also explain to the teacher that a child cannot be reprimanded for behaviors that the teacher is instituting. Additionally, a check in/check out system with a peer mentor may be beneficial to the student in helping them achieve daily goals, such as calming down when upset or completing class work.
I have learned that as an educator I need to be there for my students, protect them, and care for them as my own children. I learned about certain strategies and techniques I can use in the classroom. We discussed how important it is to prevent misbehavior in the classroom. Some prevention strategies I learned are; to plan and anticipate, have high expectations, focus on the relationships with your students, do not give up on students who have a label. These techniques will assist me as a teacher to prevent misbehavior and to have a good classroom management.
I did most of my observation in a sixth through eighth grade classroom, however I did get some experience in a third grade classroom and a second grade classroom. I think that one of the concepts that I observed the most was that there are many different ways and curriculums to teach literacy. I saw an example of a basal school, an example of daily five, but I did not actually get to see any reader’s workshop, which was disappointing because that was the majority of what we spent time working on in class (and my personal favorite thus far). I did get to see a little bit of a writer’s workshop, it was very brief but was about narratives in a comic strip form. It was interesting to see a genre applied to the writing, similar to what we practiced in class.
Children will become more independent with their learning. There are children who misbehave for many different personal reasons. Some behave badly to get attention, they disrupt other class-mates, show off and misbehave in class. They need to know their boundaries and the rules and policies in place in school, therefore understanding the school’s sanctions and
The practice sheds light on the function of behavior rather than focusing on consequences of breaking rules.the school is testing this strategy to improve students retention in school, test scores, and more importantly instilling the love of learning for diverse learners. It is harder for the school to implement it effectively
There should only be a minimal amount of rules, they should have easy, positive wording, and should be specific observable behavior (Marchant, 2012). The following literature reviews will show the importance of proactive classroom management through praise and consistent consequences through punishments. It will attempt to show the link between each behavior management technique and a decrease in disruptive
In addition to the classroom environment, children with SEBD may experience problems in a more social school setting, such as in the playground and lunch hall at break time and lunchtime. These difficulties may cause them to become withdrawn as they struggle to cope with the social and more formal demands of the school day. The associated hyperactivity and inability to concentrate on the task in hand, a common characteristic of children with SEBD, may cause disruption in the classroom and their associated frustration, can lead to challenging behaviour which can be troublesome both for the teacher and others in the class. In addition, children with SEBD frequently struggle to manage their emotions and can experience episodes of unexplained crying
While the behaviourist approach can be used to explain simple tasks, it becomes much more problematic in the learning process when tasks and objectives become more complex, such as with higher education. Even though behaviourism has had a major impact on the education in the western world, some critics highlighted the theory’s limitations by stating it was merely a scientific model that has been tested in a laboratory under specific test conditions, and how humans have a higher cognitive process than animals. They also found the theory to be dehumanising and unethical, not to mention that there was no consideration to the humans’ thought complexity compared to animals. A possible problem in relation to teachers utilising behavioural strategies in the classroom, such as praise or time-out, is the potential for haphazard, inconsistent and incorrect implementation (Angela M O’Donnell 2012, p
The teacher will explain to the students the rules. When a rule is broken the student will already know what is the consequence for their misbehavior. These details both agree that if misbehavior is being displayed a consequence will be administered. (Kagan, n.d.)
Misbehaviour results from four major causes or mistaken goals. Democratic teaching, logical consequences and encouragement, rather than praise. The reaction of teachers to students' misguided goal-seeking behavior can be instrumental in either reducing or increasing the incidence of misbehavior in the classroom. Avoiding these discipline problems depends to some degree on teachers' personalities.
Clear expectations should be set from the first day of school and constantly be reinforced throughout the year. The classroom rule should be visually displayed for students. Teachers need to take social and emotional factors of students into consideration when it comes to behavioural classroom management. Element 3.2.1 -
Chapter I The Problem Introduction Every school has its own policies which stat the rules and regulations that they are implementing to control and manage the behaviors, attitudes, and activities of the students inside the school. This may enable them to become a responsible and discipline one. The administrators and teachers are responsible for monitoring and supervising the student 's behavior.
Some students might perform best when they listen and participating in class discussions, and other might be visual persons while others prefer to take down notes. This is why it is imperative for the teachers to engage in knowing the students at the beginning of the school year and as quickly as possible for them to implement the right teaching strategies. Another important factor for the teachers to take into consideration is the parental support and home environment in the student success. Nowadays, teachers try to build a friendly relationship with the students’ parents because they know that sometimes when the student is not performing well is because there are problems at home.
