Introduction
Often we hear people talk of falling standard of education or low standard of education in Nigeria. The standard and quality of education rest to a great extent on the teacher. This is because, no education system can rise above the quality of its teachers since nobody can give what he/she does not have. The low quality of education could be attributable to low performance of teachers. This situation is real and presents challenges such as:
i. What specific factors are responsible for low performance of teachers? ii. What should be done to improve their performance? In the light of the above, this paper aims at.

In-role performance is usually what we have in mind when we refer to a person 's productivity. For a Professor, in role performance consists of preparing for and teaching classes, advising students during office hours, conducting research and writing paper and various forms of administrative chores specified by the system. For a secondary school teacher, in-role performance includes writing lesson notes, actual teaching in the classroom, making of attendance register of students, keeping record of students, continuous assessment scores etc. Typically, some minimally acceptable level can be specified for in-role performance, and performance beyond the minimum often qualifies for increased …show more content…
Ability is the result of aptitude and learning. Aptitude refers to individual differences in the facility for learning and mastering a task. According to Organ et al (1991: 266), aptitude represents "a persons potential for performance, his latent ability that may lie fallow until the proper amount of training, experience and motivation transform it into actual performance". A person with greater aptitude for a task will learn the task more easily, make faster progress, and exhibit a higher level of stable performance. Fleishman (1954: 56), listed some kinds of aptitude as abstract reasoning, facility with numbers deductive logic and verbal comprehension and fluency - these are related to intelligence. While eye-hand co-ordinator, reaction time, manual dexterity etc are physical and motor skills. The nature of the activity to be performed determines the type of aptitude required for its effective performance.
It is necessary to provide a person with learning opportunities for him/her to develop the aptitude for relevant activities in real work setting. These opportunities could be in form of training and experience. Ukeje et al (1992: 272), summarized this by stating that "effective performance in the organization depends to a considerable extent on his ability". His ability to perform is influenced by his mental and physical aptitude and the development opportunities in form of training, experience and learning he

When it comes to sports, you can either use mental agility or physical prowess. For me when I think about sports I think about using your brain. I believe this because when you participate in sports you have to be able to remember your steps and plans to play. It’s also important to have good physical abilities. This varies depending on which sport you are discussing.
This is demonstrated in the practitioner’s ability to practice their required task and to follow proper

It is described as the ability to manipulate the body in sports, dance, or other physical endeavors. Many different professional sport players fall under this category. Serena Williams would fit this description because she is an amazing tennis player; she can hardly be beat by other opponents. Her skills are very high on the physical side therefore she falls under the body-kinesthetic intelligence. Logical or mathematical intelligence is the ability to use logic and mathematical skills to solve problems such a scientific question.

A paper written by Angela Duckworth which builds on previous research done by psychologists over the past 100 years titled “Grit: Perseverance and Passion for Long Term Goals” demonstrates through many different studies how grit can affect our success. The start of the paper gives the reader a background about grit and researchers a foundation about the attributes needed to bring success. William James, 1907 proposed two questions to cover the field of psychology: What are the types of human abilities and how do people show these? Sir Francis Galton, “a British contemporary of James’”, has researched many professionals in their fields such as; lawyers, artists, musicians, poets, scientists, wrestlers and more and concluded that “ability alone cannot bring success” he later concluded that stamina is also required to bring success in your field. Galton was an early researcher of grit and gave researchers today a framework for how to be successful.
NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY High School, the Secondary level of education is facing very harsh problems. The personality, attitude, emotional stability, morale, commitment towards work of a teacher determines the quality of education. The Secondary Education Commission (1952) rightly points out "We are convinced that the most important factor in the contemplated educational reconstruction is the teacher, his personal qualities, his educational qualifications, his professional training and the place that he occupies in the school as well as in the community. Reports of Kothari Commission (1964) says that “Of all the different factors which influence the quality of education and its contribution to national development, the quality, competence, and character of teachers are undoubtedly the most significant”. This statement reiterates the importance of teachers and their attitudes.
Ability models view emotional intelligence as absolute type of mental ability and therefore as a pure intelligence. On the other hand, mixed models of emotional intelligence merge mental ability along with personality traits. The ability model is proposed by John Mayer and Peter Salovey which emphasizes that emotional intelligence is a cognitive skill. Bar-On model on emotional intelligence emphasize as mixed ability model of both cognitive skills and personality traits.
C. Analysis In this chapter, I will make critical analysis on the results of the classroom observation with my opinion. 1. Teacher’s Classroom Management a. Managing students to pay attention to the lesson According to Warfield (2016) mentioned that classroom surrounding very affects to student performance.
Performance Management Performance management according to --- is a function that that embraces activities such as articulated goal setting, uninterrupted progress reassessment, regular communication and feedback, as well as coaching for better performance. In organisations, management is responsible for meeting organisational objectives through the involvement of others; through evaluating the performance of systems and human resources.
The study is anchored on the theory of educational productivity by Herbert J. Walberg. Walberg’s theory tackles about the influences on learning that affects the academic performance of a student. It is an exploration of academic achievement wherein Walberg used a variety of methods on how to identify the factors that affects the academic performance of a student. He analyzed his theory with the help of different theorists and integrated his study with over 3000 studies. In his theory, he classified 11 influential domains of variables, 8 of them were affected by social-emotional influences namely, classroom management, parental support, student-teacher interactions, social-behavioral attributes, motivational-effective attributes, the peer
Teachers are the life-blood of school districts across the United States. They are masters of their specific grade-level content and work tirelessly to manage the learning and well-being of their students. Teachers are the academic leaders of the learning environment within their classrooms and collaborate with their students throughout the year in order to facilitate learning, and foster creativity and problem solving. However, over the last thirty years, teacher leadership has taken on a whole new meaning.
