When the great philosopher Aristotle explained his own conception of happiness, he then distinguished four different levels of happiness. The first level of happiness according to Aristotle is the short-lived type of happiness, called the Laetus, this kind of happiness is simply about the fulfillment of the material things or something external to the self, on reflection, we do not consider that it is all there is to human happiness. It’s not true happiness, because it is temporary and just disappears. This happiness does not provide any lasting fulfillment. Enjoying the small things in your life there is not wrong about it, as long as you know what are you trying to have in your life is true happiness. Second level of happiness, the Felix. Beatitudo, it is based on a human desire for connection, goodness, meaning, compassion, friendship and unity, or just simply love. This provides a deeper feeling than those of the first two types of happiness, having this as a the type of happiness a person aims, he might as well get ready to take the risk to be hurt, everything’s part of life. Lastly, Sublime Beatitudo, ultimate and perfect happiness. It is the most difficult to describe, understand and achieve. It has something to do with having the other types of happiness. It is the fulfillment of everything—every aspect of your life. The type of happiness varies to people by culture, age, perspective and other factors. It is the type of happiness that comes from within, the happiness that nobody can take from someone. It is the sense of having the most precious and genuine happiness. All human being has its one goal in common with their lives—that is to be happy. Everyone share this as common wish. No one in this world would say that he does not want to be happy. It does not matter what country you came from, what is your culture, your beliefs—all that matters is that you want to be happy. Happiness fuels the soul of someone. He will not make efforts to something he knows that will not make him
Some people are happy with their friends, some people are happy with money, some people are happy with cats...the possibilities are endless. Although this relates to happiness, I broaden the aspects and took the ideas a step further. Every being in this world can improve themselves in their own unique ways. Just like how people have their own sources of happiness, students have their own ways to expand their thinking, skills, knowledge, and
Arguably, the happier an individual is, the better the quality of their life, and the better off they are. But despite this, there are people who will even argue that lower levels of happiness are the best because you maintain the ability to progress in life and your motivation is still present. Although many people will only see two sides to this argument, there is a totally different view that provides the optimal quality of life and the most beneficial outcome in the big picture; and that is moderate happiness. Cliff Oxford’s essay “High Performance Happy” evaluates the effect that an individual’s happiness has on their beneficiality to society and how you should always strive to be the happiest you can be. Oxford’s main point is that
And my happiness needs no higher aim to vindicate it. My happiness is not the means to any end. It is the end. It is its own goal. It is its own purpose” (Rand 111).
Introduction The definition of happiness and pleasure, is something that from a very early age the human being has always wondered what it is? And as one can achieve and have a pleasant life, the philosopher Epicurus in one of his letters wrote the Letter to Menem, which talks about the happiness and the pleasure and thoughts that man forms while he is alive, I propose in this work to make reflections that The philosopher Epicurus does about what is really happiness? And how can I get it fully, see the connection through the philosophy and health of the spirit (the mind). The philosopher Epicurus mentions that man often forget that he is not an immortal being and that he cares too much about death.
It is important to want to obtain true happiness instead of just having it
What Happiness Is In the essay “What Happiness Is,” Eduardo Porter states that happiness is a slippery concept. He believes that happiness doesn’t have a specific definition, it means different things to each person. In the essay happiness is broken down into 3 parts: satisfaction, positive feelings, and the absence of negative feelings. Porter says that most people think that money and economic stability will bring them happiness and because of that they will push themselves to do better at their jobs.
People miss the fact that happiness comes from within. In an attempt to find joy – we must also be cautious about over excessive desire to acquire material objects and wealth. There is a delicate balance that must be reached between the pursuit of happiness, satisfaction, and contentment. While there are many conditions that fulfill ones emotional wellbeing, happiness and how we acquired it, depends upon the
I believe that pursuing happiness as a goal has detrimental effects. As a society, we tend to believe that we need to be full of joy at all times, but that isn't realistic - life happens. By attempting to be cheery all the time, you will never be genuinely content. You will always be searching for more and won't be satisfied with what you have, creating a permanent cycle of gloom rather than bliss.
Not many achieve happiness in their lifetime. Either they do not live long enough to witness it or they are not prepared for what their happiness is. Happiness is very subjective. Each person’s version of happiness is different. This version of happiness is universal.
In Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, the concept of happiness is introduced as the ultimate good one can achieve in life as well as the ultimate goal of human existence. As Aristotle goes on to further define happiness, one can see that his concept is much different from the 21st-century view. Aristotelian happiness can be achieved through choosing to live the contemplative life, which would naturally encompass moralistic virtue. This differs significantly from the modern view of happiness, which is heavily reliant on material goods. To a person in the 21st-century, happiness is simply an emotional byproduct one experiences as a result of acquiring material goods.
Happiness has a broad meaning. One may consider it to be having money, love, or even just enjoying the little things in life. There is no real definition for happiness because it all depends on a person 's perspective of life. Happiness is more about the way you think and act rather than a material possession. It is not something that has a physical form, or that is worth something valuable, yet everybody seeks it.
Over all there are not at all enough ways to describe the feelings of happiness. One saying I will eternally live by is by Albus
Happiness Happiness is not feeling good all the time, having more money and affording everything you want, not a final destination. Then what actually is happiness? People have agonized over this question for ages, but now today science has begun to weigh in on the debate. Many people think that getting what you want is happiness, being more rich is happiness which helps you buy every branded cloth, phone, make-up, shoe, being mentally satisfied is happiness, but no there are things beyond these desires which actually sum up happiness.
A collection of philosophical, religious, psychological and biological approaches had attempted to define happiness and analyze its connections. Researchers have found that about 50% of people happiness depends on our genes, based on studies of identical twins, whose happiness was 50% correlated even when growing up in different houses. About 10% to 15% is a result of various measurable life circumstances variables, such as socioeconomic status, marital status, health, income, and others. The remaining 40% is a combination of intentional factors and the results of actions that individuals deliberately engage in to become happier. Studies have also found that most of us are born with a fixed “set point” of happiness that we fall in throughout our lives.
Happiness can be defined in many different ways depending on who you are talking to. To me, it can be found listening to my favorite music with the volume turned all the way up. Through this experience I am able to immerse myself in something I truly love and be a be a better, lighter version of myself. For some, happiness is living in the moment and experiencing life as it passes, but for others it means living a life of virtue. Though happiness may look different for everyone, it is something that everyone is striving for.
