Background: Suicide ideation is the predictor of the self injury (suicide). In the literatures, the factors influencing suicide among youths tend to vary across the world. This provides a discrepancy results in questions about factors. The objective of this study was to assess the factors influencing suicide in youths and common means used to attempt suicide at Kinondoni municipality.

Mental disorder (Depression and substance related disorders) are major risk factor for suicide in Europe and North America, however in Asia countries impulsiveness plays an important role. Suicide is complex with psychological, social, biological, cultural and environmental factors involved (WHO, 2011) and may differ across countries.
Attempt to define suicide have led to the concept of suicidal process. A sequence that goes from suicidal ideation, plans and then to attempts and ultimately death through a specification (Bertolote, 2009)
World Health Organization (WHO) has compiled and disseminated on mortality reported by its member states, in accordance with its constitution. More than 120 countries report mortality data today. Data from developed countries (Europe, North America and few countries in western Pacific Region) are received on regular basis. Most of developing countries in Latin America, Asia and Eastern Mediterranean region report on a less regular basis where very few countries in Africa report mortality data regularly to World Health Organization.
