Nasrin Zahan Lecturer of Applied Sociology ASA University Bangladesh Title: Factors influencing women’s reproductive health Abstract: Women in developing countries are often in poor health and overburdened with work; most are anemic, many suffer from malnutrition and parasitism and chronic ill health from lack of personal attaint iron and adequate health care especially during pregnancy and childbirth. Older women and men have distinct reproductive and sexual health issues which are often inadequately addressed. Mainly women’s health status is affected by complex biological, social and cultural factors which are interrelated and can only be addressed in a comprehensive manner. Reproductive health is determined not only by the quality and …show more content…
Women in the Asia and Pacific Region active in the area of health have adopted a broad approach to women’s health problems and issues. It is recognized that the roots of disease and health hazards are in the social and economic structures of our society and until and unless the socio – economic condition changes, women will continue to suffer. The state of women’s health in the region is generally poor. The actual health status varies from country to country, and within countries, according to class, race, occupation and location of women at different level. The length of life of women as an overall indicator of health, for example, varies enormously. The average Japanese woman now lives to 80 years, almost the same as the life expectancy for Australian women of 79 years. Women of Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Democratic Kampuchea, however, …show more content…
The factors are economic, demographic, cultural, political, environmental etc. These factors influence everyone’s health. But particularly repercussions for women. Biological Factors Although human sexuality has come to many functions in addition to reproduction, its biological basis remains fundamental to the sexual experience. Sexual response involves psychological processing of information, which is influenced by learning, physiological responses and brain mechanisms which link the information processing to the physiological response. Although there is much that is not well understood about this complex sequence, it is understood that individuals vary considerably in their capacity for physical sexual response. This variability can be explained only in part by cultural factors. Poverty Poverty of course affects the health of every one, not just woman. Especially very poor people who live at slum area have not enough food or the right kinds of food, no
In the early 1900s, women’s health was non-existent. It was not taught in school, it was never spoken about in the media, and many women themselves had no knowledge about reproductive health. During this time it was common to see women with ten, fifteen, even twenty pregnancies throughout their lives. Men and women both were often unaware on how to plan or prevent a pregnancy and birth control was pronounced illegal. Consequently, this was also a period of high childbirth mortality, as well as a time where many women were dying due to self-induced or “back-alley” abortions.
For centuries women were always supposed to just bear their husband’s child, and be nothing more than a mother and wife. This created lots of problems, such as the millions of childbirth related deaths and home abortions. This eventually sparked an initiative in Margaret Sanger. As a result of the death of Margaret Sanger’s mother due to multiple childbirths, Sanger was motivated to finding a prevention of pregnancy that could potentially save lives (Gibbs, Van Pyke and Adams 41). This task, however was not easily achieved.
Underserved women in America are not able to get quality health care because of poverty, ethnicity, geography, and other reasons. These women generally need more health services due to high
Countries in South Asia have started suggesting birth control because the population is growing too big for its country. The problem with birth control is that most husbands will not allow their wives to use birth control until she gives birth to a male heir. Consequently, female babies are being mistreated and possibly killed in South Asia today. In 1994, the government made it illegal for a person to find out the sex of their baby due to people terminating the pregnancy
Health Care in the US is arguably available to all who seek it but not everybody has had the same experience and treatment when walking through the doors of a healthcare facility. In many cases, people are discriminated against due to their gender, race/ethnicity, age, and income and are often provided with minimal service. Differences between groups in health coverage, access to care, and quality of care is majorly affected through these disparities. Income is a major factor and can cause groups of people to experience higher burden of illness, injury, disability, or mortality relative to another group.
Second most reported barrier was personal health which included health related problems, followed by internal factors whereas many lacked determination and motivation to stay physically active. Finally, external factors refers to lack of social support, lack of transportation and financial cost of fitness facilities. There were also three perceived benefit theme: health promotion, improved roles, and physical fitness. Discussion Although many barriers and benefits reported by the women in the study are similar to what NHW women reported in other studies, cultural differences were still prominent.
Introduction Health is an important element throughout our life. A person’s health can be affected by many social factors such as gender roles and economic positions. As there are differences in health status between different populations groups, health inequality is then formed, for example, differences in morbidity and mortality rates between people from different social classes. In my essay, I will first define the meaning of ‘health’ from different perspectives. Then, I will talk about how social factors such as gender roles and economic positions determine a person’s health.
Today the world has progressed in several fields but overcoming poverty is not one of them. Poverty is not a problem rather a disease which has been damaging the Earth over centuries. In 1959, Inter-American Developmental Bank was established to reduce poverty in Latin America and the Caribbean. A total of 48 member countries (22 non-borrowing and 26 borrowing) came together to take this international initiative. The current situation is better but not complete.
Health is a basic human need and is a ubiquitous human aspiration. Unfortunately health is not equal and there are considerable differences in long term health outcomes between people from differing socioeconomic backgrounds. Health is not only the result of biological or genetic processes; it is also influenced by the economic and social conditions in which people live in. These influences are termed as the social determinants of health and they can influence health either positively or negatively (Siegrist and Marmot, 2006). Social determinants of health are not fixed and include things such as types of housing and environment people live in, the accessibility of education and health services, income level and employment type.

Women’s rights have been a long struggle in America’s legal system, as well as in the religious world, for many decades and women continue to have challenges, concerns, and struggles today. Fighting for what is best for their bodies such as a woman’s right to contraceptives to control whether she will get pregnant or not was not ideal for religious and personal reasons but would find a worthy advocate in a woman who would dedicate her life for women’s reproductive rights. The right for a woman to have an abortion became a legal battle that went all the way to the Supreme Courts in a very well-known case. It has always been a double standard in what was right and wrong, moral or immoral, towards women than men. A man was looked at with respect
The solidity of the health equality shall be implemented by several parties. This includes not only government, political figures or policy makers but also community that play important role as a public health specialist, social activist, and researcher. The key to maintain the health equality can be done by continuously improving the population health and eliminate differences in socioeconomic status, geography, race, and other factors. (1) Health inequality occurs when there is a dissimilarity in distribution of health acquirement between individual or groups that brings considerable drain to their lives. The consequences will be most likely to be severe in people who are less advantageous, experiencing less conducive living condition, poverty-stricken

The current sex epidemic is not about unwanted pregnancies and diseases (which both are huge problems, just not what I am talking about with this) but how willing people are to have sex with other people. This can have astounding consequences on people’s psyche, especially young women. The constant cycle of breakups, sex and emotional detachment can lead to depression, anxiety and a multitude of other things. It is also important to note that women who have more sexual partners also have a higher divorce rate. Divorces can lead to unhappy people, emotionally scarred children which then puts them at the same risk.
Contribution to health of a population also derives from social determinants of health like living conditions, nutrition, safe drinking water, sanitation, education, early child development and social security measures. According to major health indicators like immunization of infants, nutrition level in children and women, supplementation of food and its equity among all, India holds the low position compared to even Sub-Saharan African countries and Conflict ravaged countries like Afghanistan and Haiti and even from the neighboring South Asian countries like Bangladesh.
