After watching the video, one learns that Cyntoia Brown was born to an alcoholic, mentally incapable sixteen year old child named Georgina. Gina actually admits that she had no idea how to care for an infant, and eight short months after giving birth, Gina was introduced to crack cocaine. Cyntoia was passed around to several foster families during her young life, until Gina finally made an informal arrangement for one of her friend’s mother, Ellenette, to raise Cyntoia as her own. When asked to describe her home life, Cyntoia says that her mother, Ellenette, “nags” her constantly, asking her to be more like her biological daughter and her father is always slapping her around just because he wants to do so. I believe that it was unethical for the police to question her without a parent present and without her attorney. The video does not go into detail exactly what was admissible in court about her mental state, but one could speculate that the jury did not put much thought into the fact that Cyntoia was a sixteen year old prostitute that was scared and frightened to be at this strangers house by herself. The video was also unclear as to why she was charged with first degree murder, because that implies premeditation and the facts that were presented does not show any premeditation on her …show more content…

She also makes a list of her sexual partners and says that out of the thirty-two sexual partners, only four was someone that she actually wanted to have sex with. She even states that some of her sexual partners were actually her relatives, but she does not go into detail. The video then jumps to a clip of her adoptive mother commenting on the fact that Cyntoia admits to the sexual abuse from so many sexual partners and Ellenette continues to “blame” Cyntoia for not coming to her and discussing it further while it was happening. I believe that if Ellenette was actually there for Cyntoia and made her feel as though she would be free to come to her and talk then why did Cyntoia not do it? Could it be that Cyntoia felt as though her mother would “nag” her and tell her to be more like Ellenette’s biological daughter? If Cyntoia had the counseling that she so desperately needed, would Johnny Allen be alive today? One can only
