The roman empire fell for many reasons in spite of many efforts to save it. The government caused many problems for the empire that ultimately led to its demise. There was irreversible economic damage to the empire because of the government and a split military. Empires fall for many reasons:invasions, corruption and economic problems.

Corruption of the government is a key factor as to why any empire would fall. Government officials in the Roman Empire started to get greedy and power hungry; they not only started paying poor citizens for votes but they abused their power and raised taxes. Writings detail instances of corruption, bribery, patronage and incompetence in many Roman officials (Kevin Marsh). The western Empire slowly crumbled,attacked armies from the outside and beset by economic trouble from within(Nardo Don).With Rome constantly expanding it was hard to have enough military to be effective against invaders..The military also couldn’t agree on who to serve. One cause of this was the army’s split in its support for different contenders for the empire's throne (Kocsis Laszlo). Since there was no strong central military or leaderWith the military longer cohesive ,most everything got messed up, people weren’t safe and the empire was under attack and at risk of someone else taking over rome. With the military no longer strong the empire couldn’t hold up to invitations. Barbarian groups like the Goths had encroached beyond Rome’s borders (Day 7: fall of Rome Readings) This happened mainly because the army couldn’t keep up with how big the empire was, they couldn’t be everywhere at once which left gaps for people to come in and take over the
