The type of communication pattern followed in a family effect the usage of internet addiction among family members. The two dimensions of family communication pattern i.e. conversation and conformity. The combinations of high and low among these two dimensions form the four types of family communication patterns.
In a research conducted by Tajalli, F. & Zarnaghash, M. (2017) to study the effect of family communication pattern on internet addiction. The study was done to explore the effect of family communication pattern on internet addiction. The sample included 230 students of Jahrom Medical University. (2013) studied the family internal factors that influence internet addiction among adolescent girls. The sample included of 200 students. The result indicated that there is a negative relation between internet addiction and openness communication, intra-generation attention, cognitive connection, affective connection, and adjustment with adolescents ' family members. And through these factors, openness communication, intra-generation autonomy, affective connection and cognitive connection predict variance about 25 percent of addiction to internet.
Dogan, H. et.al, (2015) examined the parenting style as predictor of internet addiction. The sample included total of 419 high school students including 238 girl and 181 boy students. The results revealed that perceived parenting style varies significantly depending on Internet addiction level. Adolescents with partial Internet addiction perceived more democratic their parenting style than non-addictive adolescents; while adolescents with partial symptoms and pathological Internet addicts have perceived their parents more protective-demanding and authoritarian compared to non-addictive …show more content…

Peers become the early support for adolescents. It is observed that, it is peers that influence each other to use internet addiction.

A study conducted by Gera, M. & Kaur, K. (2014) on Peer relationships and internet usage among adolescents. The sample was inclusive of 100 students. The results indicated that there is a significant relationship between internet usage and online time spent. The time spent online was found to be positively correlated with purpose of online usage. Also negative correlation was found between purpose of using the internet and the content that is viewed online.

Self-esteem is defined as how an individual evaluate oneself. It is also known to as how one approves or appreciates him or herself. It is an individual’s self worth how s/he feels about oneself.
