During 1950s, there were lots and lots happening to the fashions due to the end of WW2, baby boom, and two famous fashionista and this gave a various effect to the fashions now. The 1950s took a huge change, especially for women.
Society has changed tremendously over the years and so has fashion. In the 1920’s, women were beginning to express themselves and exercising their individuality. They began to wear short skirts and dresses in bright, bold colors. Women also began to dress in a more masculine manner and bobbed their hair. The iconic “flapper” look started when Coco Chanel dressed in a man’s sweater with a belt around the waist.
In this essay I’m going to talk about how fashion developed and changed through the 1900s till the 1930s. The setting of these three decades it’s quite turbulent since the world had passed through the First World War and the start of the Second World War, the great depression, the rise of the suffrage, etc. 1900s In the 1900s women’s fashion was still very conservative and formal; long skirts, long sleeves, hair up and tightly corseted torso. Women of this age could wear pants, but they weren’t as popular and used in this decade they were all about skirts and dresses. During these years the rich and privileged were probably the only ones to afford the best clothing made with the most expensive and fancy fabrics with the most beautiful but costly accessories.
Clothing also underwent a lot of changes as new styles influenced by many different cultural aspects gained popularity. They were not specific to boys or girls and almost everything was unisex (Mathieson). The punk movement was one of the most noticeable changes in fashion. Heavily inspired by different singers and bands, it featured glamorous clothing with lots of glitter and colourful materials. In the mid-eighties, the singer Madonna caught on, and many girls started copying her daring outfits, which included some clothes that were traditionally considered for men.
