Reagan did led his country to a victory in the cold war but his great accomplishment came in his second term in office when he abandoned his earlier stance toward the soviet and took a more flexible stance to better the relations with a reformist and leader of the soviet union Mikhail Gorbachev by acting as Gorbachev partner as much as his enemy. Reagan help to the fall of the” Evil Empire” peacefully. By working with Gorbachev rather than against him Ronald Reagan help to strengthen the growing spirit of reform within the Soviet
In 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt became the president of the United State after President Herbert Hoover. The Great Depression was also at its height because President Hoover believed that the crash was just the temporary recession that people must pass through, and he refused to drag the federal government in stabilizing prices, controlling business and fixing the currency. Many experts, including Hoover, thought that there was no need for federal government intervention. ("Herbert Hoover on) As a result, when the time came for Roosevelt’s Presidency, the public had already been suffering for a long time.
Roosevelt ended the strike by telling the miners and its owners that he would use the army to continue coal production. The president called this the Fair Deal (“Theodore Roosevelt”). After breaking up the coal strike, Roosevelt continued to attack the monopolies in major industries and create legislation to prevent similar corrupt pursuits. Roosevelt knew the companies thought themselves immune and too wealthy to be controlled by government. He began to charge the companies left and right, which gained much support from the lower classes-earning himself the name, the Trust Buster.
The United states allies helped in the U.S winning the war. The allies that helped us win the war was British, Soviet Union, France and many other countries like Australia. The British gave the United States a lease for 99 years to territories in the Newfoundland’s, and the Caribbean. They gave us long term access to British
Hoover is often blamed for not doing anything to end the Great Depression, but he actually did try to use the government to create infrastructure projects, thus creating jobs. Like the Hoover Dam and the Reconstruction Finance Corporation to try to end the Depression. There are two major differences between their approaches. One is that President Roosevelt was willing to do more than President Hoover to combat the Great Depression. Roosevelt was willing to let the government become more involved in the economy.
“Campaign finance laws were enacted. Ford's Rockefeller Commission, which conducted a limited review of domestic CIA operations, was overtaken by the much more aggressive Church Committee and other post-Watergate Congressional investigation”(Watergate). All the reforms were good for the country but there is still a sense of lack of faith or no faith in the government. (PBS). One positive about the Watergate scandal is that the government showed that even when a president does the impossible like a Saturday Night Massacre when he fired everyone that was important to the trial, that he is still going to get caught.

Ellis explains, “The justification for Social Security is based on the humanitarian concept that financial distress in old-age, poverty and illness can and should be alleviated by the Government.” The socialistic idea that governmental control is necessary in every aspect of life is evident in the social security system. However, as a nation, America has consistently proven in every aspect of life that capitalism trumps socialism.
Obama ordered U.S. military intervention in Iraq in response to gains made by the Islamic State after the 2011 withdrawal from Iraq, continued the process of ending U.S. combat operations in Afghanistan, and normalized U.S. relations with Cuba. Then he won 2009 Nobel Peace Prize for this withdraw. It’s because most people think this can make less citizens in the Middle East die. As the first African American’s President, he tells the people that everyone can be the President no matter your race is. To conclude, everyone can contribute to the society and the entire World.
Funny how history works, FDR and Truman were the right Presidents at the right time. FDR introduced the greatest amount of domestic liberal economic legislation as part of his New Deal domestic program. Measures like the Conservation Corps (CCC), Works Progress Administration (WPA) and Tennessee Valley Authority employing over 8.5 million people and the cost of $10 Billion (Burran 2008). Although Hamby’s Liberalism and Its Challengers clarifies that new Deal failed to establish a variety of socialistic ideas and resolve all the problems, the credit is given for at least smoothing out some difficult times (Hamby 1992, 50). This tame depiction of becoming the model of modern economic liberalization that remains today then is followed by President
Have you ever heard this Inaugural address quote:” The only thing we have to fear is fear itself” Spoken during the worldwide economic depression? It comes from Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a Democrat who won a record four presidential elections making him the longest-running president in US history. Some fun facts on Theodore Roosevelt is when the president was assassinated, Theodore was also on a mountain.
The influence on wealthy individuals and corporations in politics and campaigns was not a new phenomenon in the early 1970s. In fact, President Theodore Roosevelt proposed reigning in campaign spending by corporations and called for transparency in campaign finances. However, it wasn't until 1971 that reform efforts were put into law with passage of the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA). The law, signed by Nixon shortly before the 1972 Watergate break-in, instituted disclosure requirements for federal candidates, political parties, and political action committees. However, the law lacked teeth because there was no government-level body to enforce it.
