There have been many different "witch hunts" that have happened since 1692, that have shaped our world. One of the most known is The Holocaust that happened during WWII. This is important because a large mass of innocent people were killed due to their race. Some may say it was just a part of war; however, it's much more than that. It’s the fact that one person didn’t like a certain group of people besides their own so; they felt like they had the right to take away their lives.
It last theory is that the afflicted girls accused the victims because they wanted revenge, but it is unlikely for children to hold a grudge with so many people. Most of the accusers came from high families, “Was some of the witch hunting the result of that big fight between Reverend Parris and the members of his congregation who refused to pay his salary”(- Schanzer 113)? Could it be that the parents of the accusers were malicious and fervently wanted to purposely cause their enemies to be condemned to death. It is quite a possibility due to the fact that people were not as friendly with each other as they are today. “But in the trials, neighbors also testified against neighbors, bringing up grievances as a way of getting revenge”(-Spiritual Travels).
“If your name was placed on one of these blacklists, you could lose your job and your life and reputation could be ruined.” This quote shows how those accused of communism had their lives taken and ruined. In both the times of The Witch Trials and of McCarthyism, people could be falsely accused. There is a very obvious example in The Crucible when after confessing John Proctor says to Danforth, "Why must it be written? Why must I say it?"
Crucible Synthesis Essay The idea of ¨witchcraft hysteria¨ is still around in today 's world, it goes back to the Puritans hanging people for practicing ¨witchcraft¨, McCarthyism, and racial gun violence across the United States. This can be seen through these events, that fear is the main cause of the world 's uncontrollable emotions. One, such as racial gun violence brings in a lot of heated contention due to it being considered one of the worldś most uncontrollable issues today. Therefore, that is why todayś ¨witchcraft hysteria¨ is very violent, due to the cause of racial gun violence across the United States.
Have you heard of the of the horrible living of the jew during the Holocaust? The atrocious leader during this time was Adolf Hitler. The jewish was the most targeted in during this time period. At the beginning you’ll think that wow thats not that bad but by the end your whole perspective will change.
Roosevelt used fear in his speech, and it only caused for Americans to discriminate and seclude against Japanese Americans, by sending them to concentration camps and taking any of their belongings. In Miller's play The Crucible, the use of fear only caused for many people to accuse each other of witchcraft, be sent to court, imprisoned, and hanged. The use of fear in motivating an audience should never be used because it only causes for irrational decisions to be made as well as many unjustful decisions as
The threat of Communism and the Red Scare put fear of group mentality into many people during the late 1940-50s. The authors of 1984 and The Crucible used their respective works to comment on the social injustice going on in their own lives, which connects to injustice the exists throughout time anywhere in the world. Miller wrote his play, set in 1692, about Puritans and the Salem witch trials because he believed that, similar to his trial for HUAC in the 1950s, the trials in Salem were caused by false accusations and mass hysteria led by powerful individuals. In 1984, Orwell creates a world in the near future that shows group mentality and its threat to conform society with the government.
In society there are depersonalizations that come with institutions such as places of education, and government. One of the terrible markers of depersonalization is genocide. One of the most remembered genocides in history a part from, Stalin’s political prisoners, and the re-locating and executions of Native American’s in the new world, is the Holocaust. During the Holocaust, Nazi’s did not treat Jews like people but rather a disgraceful part of society that were to be rid of. However, depersonalization does not only happen on a global level, but rather it happens daily in each of our lives.
Throughout the Holocaust the Jews began to become isolated from society and more in the Holocaust. “These laws had embodied many of the racial theories underpinning Nazi
Many Jews were effected by the Holocaust. First of all, Dehumanization was the act of treating poorly and taking away human rights from Jews, gypsies, and communists. The Nazi's treated people who were Jews callously. They would abuse them, beat them as well as take away their clothes and starve them. People felt bleak because they were treated this way. "
Both situations spiraled out of control because of ignorance and the use mob mentality. A person who sympathized with Communists was persecuted, just as if someone tried to defend the accused witches of Salem. Parallel to the Salem Witch Trials, the McCarthy Trials accused hundreds of innocent people of being Communists without any proof. Like Salem, if the accused confessed to communism, they would be blacklisted from their community, but not jailed. Sir William Phips was the Governor of Massachusetts at the time of the salem Witch Trials, and he refused to stop the trials until one of the accusers targeted his wife.
To conclude, concentration camps did horrible thing to people just because Hitler did see them as "desirable", Hitler thought that we should live in a world without Jews. So he sent them to concentration camps. They lived in harsh conditions. They went through harsh labor that killed most of the people. Some people decided to take a stand, but got punished harshly for those actions.
He published a book many years later, to tell his side of the story. The Holocaust was an extermination plan for the Jewish faith and its followers. The Holocaust was under the control of a Nazi leader, Adolf Hitler. Hitler was an anti-Semite, meaning he not only had hatred towards the Jews but he showed it as well. As of today, the Holocaust genocide by far, was the most horrifying event for the Jews as well as the nation.
By maintaining his individual integrity, John Proctor’s life came to an end. He quotes, “I have given you my soul, please leave me my name.” (Act 4, Page 124), at this point Proctor still wants his name unscathed for personal and religious reasons. He refuses to confess and sign his name to witchcraft in respect of fellow prisoners dying after refusal to confirm dealings with the devil. As the Puritan society of Salem is so fixated and fearful of witchcraft, most individuals were gullible to almost all testimonies made.
Once some of the assumptions proved to be accurate, people became frightened and terrified of all Germans. Those beliefs have endured and are still prevalent today. At the same time, it is true that the Germans, as a people, made mistakes. They elected Hitler, allowed him to rise to power and commit many atrocities. Were the majority of Germans aware of the horrific things happening around them?
