The Role of Fear in The Crucible Fear plays an important role in the play, The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller. Fear motivated the accusers and the accused such as the character Abigail Williams, Mary Warren, and John Proctor. Fear motivated Abigail in many ways, first was when her and the other girls were in the woods and they were dancing and Abigail drank chicken blood. The people in the village found out and she blamed Tituba out of fear, then she blamed Elizabeth to get her hung so that way she could be with John Proctor without Elizabeth finding out. Abigail also ran away because she was afraid of getting hung for lying, accusing others of witchcraft and also stealing. Abigail was motivated by fear throughout the play. Fear
