Is Feminism the Right way to Live? Equal rights for everyone seems like a fantasy, but it isn’t. This is exactly what feminism stands for. By definition feminism is, “the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes.” A women’s rights movement that can be beneficial for everyone. Feminism is equality for everyone and getting this done without any harm. There are feminist protests and speeches that share what feminism is to each individual. Feminism stands for equality and allows everyone to live in an equal environment and and allows everyone to live as they please. Feminism gives the right for everyone to have a freedom of speech. Feminism gives the opportunity of freedom of speech to everyone who chooses to use it. With feminism, you are able to speak your mind. “Freedom of speech is one of the most precious and important human rights. A free society depends on the free exchange …show more content…
The wage gap and household stereotypes are all things that aren’t changing. All of these things haven’t changed since the 1960’s. The wage gap has been talked about greatly with feminists, yet nothing is changing with the protests. The wage gap is slowly becoming equal, but how long does it have to take for something so small to change. Women still earn 77 cents for every dollar a man makes. Household stereotypes is also something that feminists claim to be changing but aren’t. No matter how hard feminists try, they won’t be able to change anyone's mind about certain things, this is one of them. Women will, and will always be expected to be in the house all day waiting for their husbands to come home. Even though these things aren't changing, this doesn’t mean they won’t. It has been almost 50 years since these first stereotypes became popular, and it might take another 50 for them to go away. Hopefully we can one day forget these untrue stereotypes about women and other
Right to vote, divorce, own property, education, employment, respect, representation in government, marriage, equal pay, and right to self. Feminism is the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men. A Feminism is everywhere no matter where you go she can be standing next to you, she can be your mom, aunt, grandma, or even a stranger that you haven’t met or seen. But Feminism to me is where every women is sick and tired of being mistreated, their being treated like if they were toys and no one is doing anything about it. That’s why women are sick and tired of being underlooked, and mistreated.
A famous saying is “a closed mouth doesn’t get fed” that represents how if a person does not put words onto their thoughts then they will never be heard. Diane Ackerman writes, “ ...although it is possible to have a thought without words, it’s rarely possible to know what one thinks without bronzing it with words.” Ackerman’s claims are valid, words need to be used in order to hear a person’s thoughts. Feminism is a political and social movement that is geared towards creating equality between males and females in various aspects of life (e.g work, education etc). Feminists throughout the world have different views on what they consider feminist goals based on the societies and cultures they live in.
Throughout history, people have been fighting for their own rights. Feminism is the movement of women’s rights based on the idea of equality between genders. The ideal image was women had a more private life. They were supposed to be at home washing the clothes, cooking, watching the children, and cleaning. For men
Feminism: the advocacy of women 's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes. “The 19th Amendment was passed in 1920, granting women the right to vote. It seemed to many, at the time, that the women 's rights movement was over. Having obtained the right to vote, women now had equal rights. Except that was far from the case.
According to Eastern Kentucky University on women and gender studies, “feminism is the issue of equality based on gender, gender expression, gender identity, sex, and sexuality as understood through social theories and political activism”. Feminism
Above all, supporting the idea, the right, of a woman to be all that she is in everything she does and it not be regarded privilege. A feminist is a person, who supports feminism, feminism is the avocation of equality and women’s rights and Nefertiti and Cleopatra were ancient
• Feminism is about contesting systemic inequalities, and seeking equal treatment and opportunity for both genders. • Feminism is not against marriage but respect individual informed choice and does not believe in double standard in judging a person’s conduct. • Feminists acknowledge that equal rights translate into equal accountability. Although feminism continues to be non-monolithic and contentious, it has made several progress and created new worlds of possibility for working women, education, empowerment and even arts.
Feminism Is Equality Feminism is a strong belief that states both men and women should be equal. Women should have the same rights, the same amount of respect, and the same contribution and acceptance in our society. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Inequality between men and women is still just as relevant today, as it was decades ago.
For as long as the world has existed there has been sexism. Even after the women rights act was passed in the 1920’s there has still been discrimination against women. Wether it be in the workforce, online, or just out in public sexism still happens. In the year 2018 women should not still be discriminated simply for their gender. Many people wonder as to what would be the best approach to end sexism.
Feminism includes to look for equal opportunities for women in education and employment. - Feminism movements fights for the rights of women for example the right to vote, to be able to do the work that men do, to earn equal pay as men, to receive the same education, to have equal rights in a marriage, etc. Feminists are also seen as a “right” that women have that will help them to stay safe from rape, sexual harassment, and domestic violence, etc. - In other words Feminism is seen as a group of women who have the same goals.
What modern feminists refuse to admit is that feminism is only one side of a two-sided coin of inequality. A “movement” that advocates for the rights of one gender over another is sexist and unequal by nature. If feminists were striving for equality, then they wouldn’t be FEMinists. Being feminist, simply put, means that you want women to not only be equal to, but greater than men.. Thus, I believe that feminism is a poorly made masquerade to cover women’s desire to control men.
Small lies that we subconsciously tell ourselves mean nothing in the grand scheme of things, but if we tell ourselves small fibs on a regular bases over small and miniscule problems, what’s to stop us from saying bigger lies when bigger issues arise? One of the biggest issues, gender discrimination, must be abolished since women struggle with the gender pay gap, and unfair treatment in sports, while men struggle with the gender discrimination in divorce cases, mostimes leaving their gender as the main reason the mother receives custody over the child or children. Women may be able to participate in the same profession as men, but the large gap in pay between genders fails to attribute to the positives of said situation. The members of the Institute for Women 's Policy Research have used statistics over the past hundred years to conclude that: “Hispanic women will have to wait until 2233 and Black women will wait until 2124 for equal pay” (Pay Equity). The IWPR states that, “According to our research, if change continues at the same slow pace as it has done for the past fifty years, it will take 44 years—or until 2059—for women to finally reach pay parity.”
In our advanced 21st century, it is hard to imagine our society as anything short of perfect. After all, we have come a long way from our seafaring ancestors. However, the reality is that despite how we may sometimes avoid seeing it, our society is anything but perfect. A very prevalent issue today is that despite laws being set in place to enforce the equal treatment of men and women, women all over the world today still face poor treatment and discrimination. Because of how deep and long this problem has run, revising discriminatory laws may not abolish discrimination and legislating laws that endorse gender equality may not necessarily create equality.
As opposed to female advancement, women are bombarded with housewife stereotypes that emphasize their role as a sexual being whose job is to serve and please, create a family, and acquiescently look after children and the home. Gender Equality is the only way forward. What is gender equality? Gender equality is achieved when all genders enjoy the same rights and opportunities across all sectors of society, including economic participation and decision-making, and when the different behaviors, aspirations and needs of women and men are equally valued and favored.
