ABSTRACT
Trigonella foenum graecum commonly known as methi and fenugreek is a traditional medicinal plant. Fenugreek is a natural source of protein, which rebuilds and strengthens the hair shaft. It reduces hair fall and promotes hair growth. In the present study looking towards the potential of plant the callus culture of Trigonella foenum graecum was optimized in Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium with addition of different plant growth regulators (PGR) in combination. Results showed that combination of 2, 4-D and BAP at the level of 2.0 and 0.5 mg/L was effective in callus production from nodal explants whereas no callus formation was observed from leaf explants. The organogenic callus of Trigonella foenum graecum produced multiple shoots in the MS medium amended with IBA and NAA 3.0 and 1.0 mg/L and roots amended with IAA and IBA 3.0 and 2.0 mg/L respectively. Compact callus, …show more content…

Plant tissue culture is found to be an attractive alternative approach for production of desirable medicinal compounds, primary and secondary metabolites (Rao and Ravishankar, 2002).
Trigonella foenum graecum
Trigonella foenum graecum plant is commonly known as methi. Historically, fenugreek was used for a variety of health conditions, including menopausal symptoms and digestive problems. It was also used for inducing childbirth. The dried seeds are ground and taken by mouth or used to form a paste that is applied to the skin.
Methods
T. Foenum graceucm collected from durgapura nursery jaipur. Seeds and nodal segments were used for callus culture. MS medium was used for callus culture supplemented with combination of auxins and cytokinins. The antimicrobial activity of methanol extract of different plant parts (stems, fruits and leaves) was determined by using agar well method
