Marcos was a former senator and president of The Republic of the Philippines. His political career began with his claims of serving as a soldier during the WWII. Owing to this fabricated wartime record, Marcos’ successful entered the Philippines politics and continued to succeed in holding a position in public office until finally, the presidency in 1965. In 1969, after much conflict, he was reelected making him the first Filipino president to serve a second term (Biography, 2014).
In between the years of his first term, records show that peace and order had deteriorated. Several crimes shook the nation- the massacre of peasants in Tarlac and the Jabidah massacre were among the famous examples of this. Furthermore, many conflicts arose which include the Huk repression, graft and corruption and unresolved crimes of the agents of law. In the following years of 1965 – 1972, these continued to persist and increase.
