Ishan Parashar (M-14-06) DoMS, RGIPT 1 Fight against Corruption: Role of Youth “Youth is a spark that can lighten or burn an entire nation” – Anonymous As perfectly described in the above quote, youth is a force that can change the course a nation in a matter of few months which otherwise takes years. Bubbling with energy with a desire to succeed and prove oneself, this force can do wonders. Over many years it has been very common to have heard speeches that include lines regarding youth and their role in the fight against corruption. How they should uphold moral values, how they should avoid themselves and deter others from resorting to corrupt practices. It is true as well. However one must ponder, considering we all know this fact, why hasn’t any generation been able to take an effective stand against corruption but tries to inspire the next generation to take up the task? The answer to this is guidance. The power of a united youth towards a common goal can do wonders and create history. Whether the history is to get inspired from or shiver from depends on the guidance that one gives. Leadership of Adolf Hitler can be seen as a dreadful example in this regard. After coming to power in 1932, he outlawed all forms of youth groups and replaced them with “Hitler Youth” and “German League of Young Girls”. They were taught to revere Hitler. Hitler could harness the power of youth and as a result, in the name of the Fuhrer, the German youth committed horrible atrocities as
In history there are a lot of great leaders who stood up for what they believed in and never gave up, such as the books A Mighty Long Way by Carlotta Walls LaNier and Little Rock Girl by Shelley Tougas. In the book there are young leaders who never gave up and had a great impact on young people. 14 year old Carlotta, was in the group with 8 other young teenagers who only wanted to make it to class. Just making it through the door of Central High was a huge relief. In 1957, during the integration in Little Rock Central High school, the media illuminated certain events but showed an inaccurate or incomplete picture of other events.
Adolf Hitler, was a german politician that ended up as the Nazi Party leader. Her created Hitler youth to use education as a way to turn students into Nazis. In “Hitler Youth: Growing up in Hitler’s Shadow.” author Susan Campbell Bartolletti discusses the way Adolf Hitler used education to further Nazi ideals. Hitler changed standard textbooks into Nazi-approved ones, didn’t allow students to have their own personal ideas, and to only have teachers that taught Nazi-approved ideas.
The Nazis tried to indoctrinate them with Nazi ideology, brainwashing the German youth. They wanted to take away all social structures and traditions. All of the youth throughout Germany sang the same Nazi songs, wore the same uniforms, and participated in similar activities. The members had to attend meetings and events regularly. There was interference with church and school, because they had so many meetings and events.
Another big way the Nazis manipulated people was through the Nazi youth camps. The youth groups turned the Nazi ideas and ways into a fun summer camp-like idea for young children. Teens at these camps were told to reproduce and that it was okay to do so before marriage because they are “married to the Reich”. The groups of girls seemed to focus more on things such as gymnastics while the boys' camp became a sort of mini military. These camps would make the boys learn to idolize the war until they were chosen to help
Jutta Rüdiger was the leader of a part of the Hitler Youth called the League of German Girls In a speech to the league, she says that The Hitler Youth was the only youth movement to acknowledge “that the death of two million soldiers in the World War signified a responsibility... [of] serving Germany through deeds” (Doc. 24). She and the rest of the organization advocated for having youth who were “politically conscious” (Doc. 24). She believed that the Hitler Youth helped teenagers establish their own opinions in ways that no other organization has done in the past. A politically right German teenager named Melita Maschmann felt the same way.
Another example of poor leadership is McMurphy, is essentially a child rapist, leading a bunch of crazy people. However, there is an important message in this that no matter what your circumstances you can be a great leader that has a huge effect on those around you, and in this case, it ends up being a beneficial effect that will save everyone in the
The key to successful leadership is influence, not authority. Based on my reading of The Epic of Gilgamesh, I found that influence of the leader in the Ancient Near East, was pivotal in order for the society to function. The Mesopotamian society had three major factors; economics, politics, and a system of values. All of these factors were intertwined, where one factor has influence on all the others. So when someone like Gilgamesh relies on his ability to lead only with authority, the society begins to divide.
Wherever human beings are accumulated together in large numbers, they need leadership. Even a school needs a principle to mentor and escalate the school’s rank. Armies need generals to lead them to a courageous victory. Civilians need governments, captains of industry and intellectual leaders of thought as well. However, There are characteristics common to most great leaders that can be picked out.
Corruption can be a very surreptitious and overwhelming thing, but unfortunately it’s everywhere. Power can corrupt by putting fear
Teen Activism. There are many teens in the world who are teen activists. You can be a activist. You can help out the neighborhood, the community, the city, and even the world. But you’ll have to be prepared for the hard work that comes with it.
“For all the rhetoric of the young and charismatic President, JF Kennedy, and his successor, Lyndon Johnson, for many Americans living in the 1960s the ‘American dream’ remained just that – a dream.” The 1960s in America was a time of great social and political changes. It was the decade of new frontiers being explored which was initially lead by the young, charismatic, Democrat President John F Kennedy. The American Dream was first introduced in 1931 to be defined as; having individual rights and freedom such as freedom of speech, peaceful protest, equality between races, gender and age.
Another thing about leadership is its an art. People can’t just become a leader, it’s inside of them just waiting for an opportunity to reveal itself. “Educators, health professionals, and parents all agree that as society grows more complex, young people are in greater need than ever for grounding in the basic values that determine character”(Hirschmann 12). This shows that the higher ups in
In Nazi Germany, books were removed from classrooms by censors and textbooks were rewritten, after-school meetings of the Hitler Youth and the League of German Girls trained children to be faithful to the Nazi party. In both countries, teachers taught students blind obedience to the party, love for Hitler & Big Brother (who were both dictators), and anti semitism. In school and out, young people celebrated such occasions as their ruler’s birthday and the anniversary of his taking power. Corrupting children is a key component for a government to stay in power because when the corrupted children grow up , they will grow up to be trained to be obedient to the government and tell the police if they witnessed any crimes. For example, Winston’s next door neighbor, Parsons; had children who were trained by the government to report any suspicious activity and to have blind obedience to the Party.
Although there are debates as to whether or not bad leadership really exists, if it does, it is clearly shown by Commodus. He kills his father just to be ruler and then keeps on instigating fights with Maximus. He thought of himself as much higher and more important than the people he was leading, while he should have tried to lead on the same level as them. He killed off people he thought was lesser than him in the arena as well as animals. These two also engaged in coercive power and coercion.
There are many things in the world that could make a society better. Many people look down on some adults because they don’t think that kids and young people could make a difference in society. They laugh when a young person say that we want to make a difference because we have to stereotype that we just go out and smoke, take drugs, and never want to pay attention to the society. Many grown ups do not think that kids cant do it, they just want their kids to be normal and go to school just like the other kids. Young people came make a change in society by their Jobs, Community Services, and voting.
