Authors all around write stories that make people visualize, without the use of a picture. Authors use figurative language and several other techniques to make everybody see the picture without seeing a picture. The story of “The Pigman” by Paul Zindel has a lot of figurative language to show that you don’t need pictures to help visualize the story.
Readers give writers all credits for creativity and imagination when “reading is also an event of the imagination. The creativity of the reader meets that of the writer and in that meeting we puzzle out what he means, or what we understand he means” (65). Symbolism is essential to novels. By expanding our creativity and imagination, every reader has a different experience when reading the same book. When reading stories there are many similarities readers begin to notice, such as a character, a journey, or a plot twist.
Authors use figurative language to engage their readers and make their story more convincing or interesting. Authors also use it to help add mood fluency and imagery to their books. For example, in Ender’s game the author uses figurative language a lot to help the reader understand and help picture what 's going on in the scenes. The author uses metaphors, and hyperboles to create vivid images. The author use these literary devices to enhance the novel.
Hunter Hitchens Mrs. Atkin EL8-3 5 March 16 I recently read the book Pigman. Paul Zindel created an interesting plot with the sophomores Lorraine and John. Them and their friends are prank calling people and trying to stay on the phone as long as they can. John gets Mr.Pignati on the phone who is willing to “donate” to John and Lorraine’s charity but requests to meet them.
Having great diction like Bradbury did helps show the tone. Another literary element that
There are many ways an author can convey the message of any story. Elements such as the Plot, Conflict, Character/Characterization, Setting, Symbolism, Narration, and Imagery are used in these ways. For example, in the In the story "Harrison Bergeron", the author Kurt Vonnegut uses the characterization, and the conflict to communicate the message to the reader that Uniformity and strict laws lead to a loss of personal freedom and individuality. Vonnegut uses the element of characterization.
In the except from the novel “ Under the feet of Jesus” by Helena Maria Viramontes shows the development of Estrella from being angry to understanding what she needed to do to succeed. The author uses figurative language and selection of detail to show the changes Estrella’s character went through, which reveals that knowing what things are is beneficial. The author uses figurative language like similes and metaphors to show Estrella’s frustration with her teacher and her understanding of tools. The author says, “ all that a jumbled steel inside the box… seemed as confusing and foreign as the alphabet she could not decipher.”
In his memoir, Stephen King includes a brief autobiography of his life as well as information on how to be a good writer. Throughout the text, King builds a sense of trust with his reader, drawing their interest to the writing. This sense of trust is created through the author’s use of rhetoric. In his memoir, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft Stephen King uses ethical and emotional appeals to gain trust from the reader, in order to convince him or her to use King’s writing tips. King first creates a sense of emotional appeal by describing his childhood and major events in his life.
Figurative language is sometimes used to make events have certain moods such as happiness, sadness, mystery, and suspense. The book focuses on a deadly virus that is highly contagious and is very oppressive. The virus had originated from the central rainforests of Africa, then had suddenly appeared in Germany. The book describes how Charles Monet bled out from the disease in the Nairobi Hospital waiting room, how monkeys contributed to spreading the disease, the effects the virus has on the body, and how the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, or USAMRIID tested the virus on monkeys and tried to find a cure for the virus. In The Hot Zone, by Richard Preston, the author uses figurative language such as foreshadowing
Literature is a medium that enables people to effectively express their opinions and perspectives. Being the vast genre that it is, fiction presents writers with the opportunity to utilize literary devices in their pieces. These devices help in communicating the message of the author’s work. Several fictional texts use common literary devices such as metaphors, similes, symbols, and imagery. These devices allow for writers to personally involve readers with the author’s message.
Literary devices are what makes up any work. Every author has to incorporate their style into their work so that they can give the reader an idea on how to feel. It is manipulation actually, they use positive and negative reinforcement in their words to affect the readers judgement. In The Inferno by Dante Alighieri uses symbolism and diction to help the reader comprehend his work.
The story the Pigman is about to highschoolers named John and Lorraine who befriended the Pigman after playing a joke on him. They had pretended to be charity workers and convinced him to donate $10. It didnt bother him as their friendship had grown much more than they all had imagined. They one day went out and bought roller skates, john and lorraine had rode their skates out of the store as the pigman
The story “The Pigman” by Paul Zindel is a very good book in my opinion. The book is about two kids who’s avocation is pranking. They love to prank people when they are with eachother. When they prank people they sometimes mortify them and try to make them look bad or stupid. In the story the one main charachter Lorraine, called a man by the name of Angelo Pignati and he anwsered the phone. Lorraine decided to Have some prevarications. She told Mr. Pignati that she and the other main charachter John, were charity workers and they wanted a donation. Mr. Pignati agreed to it and he said that they should come over to his house so he could give the money to them in person. They agreed to do that and they went over to his house the next day. Lorraine was antagonistic and did not want to collect the money while John really wanted to get the money from him. They both went over to the pigmans to collect the money.
Literary fiction is “… written by someone with serious artistic intentions who hopes to broaden, deepen, and sharpen the reader’s awareness of life (Johnson 57).” Literacy fiction gives the reader a deeper view on the real world aiming the reader to empathize with the characters and others. In the short story, Hunters in the Snow by Tobias Wolff is a prime example of literary fiction, as three men are hunting during a snow storm. Through the story, the author has the reader’s emotions shifting and engages the reader into what is going to happen next. Through the struggles of the men hunting in a snow storm, and getting injured the author shows actions of each character that the reader can relate to real world people, such as selfishness and
Every literary work has its own purpose of existence and no literary is the same. There is always literary work for someone to be interested in. the authors use different techniques in order to attract the readers, such as rhythm, rhyme, characters, settings, characters, theme, and conflict and other techniques. One of the elements that literature allow the readers to use is the imagination in order to visualize what the author message is in his story or poem. Some stories, poems or drama are based from the writer’s personal experience, such as the conflict with they have with society because of their race, gender or ethnicity.
