The theme of the short story “The Sniper” by Liam O’Flaherty, is about the total disregard for human life after being trained to kill as his job duties in the military.This story shows a very dark and hatred plot, including the sniper shooting two people without hesitation. For example, after the old woman comes around the corner and talks to the turret operator, “The turret opened. A man´s head and shoulders appeared, looking towards the sniper. The sniper raised his rifle and fired. The head fell heavily on the turret wall. The woman darted towards the side street. The sniper fired again. This means that when people started shooting at eachother that the guns loud noise made similar to dogs braking the night with their loud barking This peice evidence can identify figurative language because it's explaining what it would be like if you were there in the battle so it changes the mood tone of story to kind of scary because now you are fighting for your life.“It was an enemy car. He wanted to fire, but he knew it was useless. His bullets would never pierce the steel that covered the gray monster”(O'Flaherty 1). This quote mean that there was a armored car that could not be destroyed and that he could do nothing about it and it was so scary that the author called it a gray monster.When the author said that it made the tone of the story more scary because monsters are indestructible only if you had explosives which he did not.This evidence shows figurative language because it changes the tone of the story giving a perspective of what it would be like being stuck in a life or death situation with no one to help you.There is no figurative language in the short story “The Sniper” by Liam O’Flaherty.This is incorrect because there is more figurative language and it shows it in the text of the
