The next form of display is through placing clothing of famous and reputable people of that time. In the eighteenth century, Madame Tussaud of wax-museum fame was acquiring and displaying the clothing of famous people. Madame Tussaud’s mentor, Dr Phillipe Curtis, was highly skilled at wax modeling. The wax figures were made from wood or leather, and clothed in the latest fashion of the era. The most important detail of Curti’s wax models was what they were wearing. Women all over France, England and neighboring countries would visit Curtis’s Salon to see Marie Antoinette’s favorite dress made by her personal stylist, Rose Bertin or the King’s mistress, Madame du Barry lounging in all her finery.

Fashion Theory 2, no.4 Dec, 98) In Paris, the international capital of fashion, there are two important fashion museums: the Musée de la Mode et du Costume at the Palais Galliéra, and the Musée de la Mode et du Textile affiliated with the Louvre. The Galliéra possesses an extensive collection of historical dress, while the Louvre is stronger in contemporary fashion.

The way an exhibitor decides to place the numerous historical garments with the other equally outstanding pieces is also something to be pondered about. When a dress is not strong enough, it is placed together with several other dresses that are of the same level of intense. Figure 4 shows the display in Salon d’honneur of “The newfound Fashion: dresses treasures of Countess Greffulhe”. This part of the exhibitions includes several dresses placed closely to one another with the Vitali Babini housecoat framed on the side. When a viewer enter this part of the exhibition, the viewer can view these pieces as a whole and might neglect some details as the dresses placed tightly with each other might pose as a distraction to the
