Eliminating the Filipino subject
When the heroes fought for our language, they expected us to protect and keep it for generations to come, but a youth activist group spokesperson Velasco (2014) said “by removing the Filipino subject it is a complete betrayal of our heroes who fought for our country”. What they don’t understand is that the Commision on higher education’s decision to remove the subject was not talking about removing the language but only the subject.
Everyone who went through primary, elementary and high school have learned everything there is to know about the history, language and other Filipino related topics that are taught from primary to high school. Many college students had said that learning the basic subject even though they’re in college have been very stressful because those subjects are only a hindrance or interference from focusing on their important projects. They are not saying that the subject is a bother, but they think that they had enough of learning introductory subjects that only recaps the lessons that we already learned during elementary and high school. Some minor subjects are taught by deepening the meaning or the topic that is not as significant as the major subjects that we should learn during our college year because we need it more depending on the course we 're taking.
There are many reasons why they want to implement the removal of the Filipino subject, but there are 2 main reasons. First the adoption of the K-12 program for
McKinley felt the Filipinos werent ready to govern themselves so he could not grant them independence. While fighting the Spanish American War McKinley led the Filipinos who were seeking to overturn Spanish rule that possibly they would be given their independence if they helped the Americans. McKinley also felt it would be bad for American business if he allowed another nation such as Germany or Great Britain to have and govern the islands So McKinley allowed himself to be convinced to keep the islands under American control.
For an instance, family time is known to be an important aspect of Filipino culture. Due to the increase of extra time off to do other activities, you will not hesitate anymore to bond and go out with your family or friends and do things that would not have been able to otherwise. Thus, the four-day school week provides students and teachers
Students do not delve into those topics until 5th grade. It seems that the first 5 years of education is concentrated on facts, that require not analysis of problems or what they can do to create change. Students in the early years miss out on global studies too. The important concepts that give students a worldly view of how our country interacts globally are not included. The standards try to give students a combination of what the authors suggest, but each grade is very scheduled in what is to be learned and without much

If students are taught in a language they know, they can learn more effectively; and it won’t increase their burden that they have to spend more time on extra schoolwork. Besides, students won’t lose their confidence and interest in school subjects. However, there is rising opposite voice to the bilingual education. In this chapter, some challengers claim that bilingual education cannot benefit students in acquiring English language proficiency; and bilingual education prevent students from using English. In this point, the author defends that the charge that bilingual programs make exclusive use of the primary languages of the LEP students is absurd.

2.0 INTRODUCTION Language development happens both inside the classroom (as part of a formal establishment, school or institute) and outside it. The classroom is generally considered a formal setting, and most other environments informal, with respect to language learning. “In environments where informal language development is adequate, it is possible to regard the formal classroom as supplemental, complementary, facilitating and consolidating”(Van Lier, 1988: 20). For second-language development in such environments the informal settings can be regarded as primary and the formal classroom as ancillary. The L2 lesson then becomes a language arts lesson, focusing on special language skills and cognitive/academic growth, much in the same way
In the Philippines, all the information you need for your exams, quizzes and lectures you must really need to work hard to get the information you need in order to pass the exam and to be able to understand the lectures. The setup of the exam is also different, aside from multiple choice kind of questions, it also has enumeration, fill in the blanks, identification, matching type, essay and true or false in just one exam whatever the subject is. On the contrary, all kind of exam here in the United States is multiple choice, it is a type of test in which they give you options and one of the options they gave you is the right answer. INTRODUCTION We belong in a time where the world goes through constant changes. Life today is so fast-paced and dynamic that we sometimes knowingly ignore what 's happening around us since it may instantly change anyway. The Philippines specifically, have gone through great changes in the past several years. These changes have rooted from problems that made it impossible for us to develop and progress as a country.
As the Japanese colonized the Philippines, Nippon-go was taught to the Filipinos and made it the common language in the Philippines. Japanese cultures were also taught in schools as they want to change the culture of the Filipinos. Today, the most fundamental objective of
Not all of us need special education. However, are we just going to stand here and just don’t give a care without any information about special education? Many of us are still wondering as to why we need to have a special education. Special education refers to the arrangement of teaching procedures, adapted equipment and materials, accessible settings, and other interventions designed to address the needs of students with learning differences, mental health issues, physical and developmental disabilities, and giftedness. Special education started in the Philippines in 1907 with the establishment of the Insular School for the Deaf and Blind.
In the contemporary living of the humankind in the 21st century, the popular culture plays a vital role in our own lives especially in youth. Hence, we future teachers and all adults must be more acquainted and involved in advancing our critical understanding to everything we read, watch and hear in all sorts of media than the youth to guide them properly in attaining more accurate and holistic knowledge inside or outside the classroom. As a student of Developments in education, I realized the advantage of how proper understanding Philippine cultures can contribute to effective teaching, because someday we will be in contact with Filipino children who will grow into adults of tomorrow. It will become essential for us, future teachers to have

Sociologists have long attempted to interpret and define what social change is. There are plenty of conceptions that have emerged, and up until now it has been and is still being perceived differently across realities. Looking at varying definitions allows us to look at how social change is perceived differently depending on the social and historical situation, and on how individuals perceive their reality. Talcott Parsons, being a structural functionalist, associated social change with evolution. His Evolutionary Theory, processes of differentiation, intergration, and value system generalization describe how social change occurs as societies evolve.
