In our present time where poverty is dominating, many of the Filipino workers are experiencing lots of extreme problems such as paying higher rates of income tax. Did you know that the Philippines have the second highest income tax rates amongst its ASEAN-6 peers? Thailand and Vietnam are the leading countries which has a 35% tax rate whereas in the Philippines, its tax rate is 32% which is almost tantamount to the tax rates of the former countries. The mere difference is only 3% of it. My only question is why do have to pay so much? Who is this for? Is this for the corrupt official who steal our money or for the Filipinos specially those suffering in poverty? What must be the solutions to these problems that keep on arousing in this existing environment? Our Filipino workers today pays a large amount of taxes, come to think of it, in their situation, they earn a 600 peso wage each day (which is the minimum amount of money paid to a single worker). They pay 192 pesos for tax however they never benefited from these. If this would happen, it would only leave you with 408 pesos but you would never get the chance of spending this money for your family 's sake because you also have to pay government bills such as SSS or GSIS. Therefore for every 600 pesos profit that every Filipino workers earn each day, you can only settle approximately 200 pesos or below each day for your own family use and this is obviously too less if you have more than 4 members in one
Philippines and Canada are two different economic spectrum. The former has historically struggled with poverty from the period of colonization to today’s rapid globalization with poverty incidence of 21.6% as of 2014 (PSA, 2016). Canada, on the other hand, has 9.7% rate of low income but majority of those are transitory. From 2005-2010, only 1.5% are considered in persistent low income (Statistics Canada, 2015 as cited by Lamman, & McIntyre, 2016). Beyond these numbers, there remains a grim reality that faced citizens within the poverty thresholds from both nations.
The government should implement redistribution meaning taking income from higher incomes and providing income
This is because the Filipino War was fought as Counter-Insurgency Warfare and the government put more time in this COIN strategy. They also had more control areas that they had which is COIN success are measured in. While the program has been successful in some way, there are something that I would change about the
In 1899, the United States annexed the Philippines after a short but bloody war with Spain. These rich, plentiful islands full of resources were in great demand. The U.S. saw the Philippines; fighting against Spain so like them when they were rebelling, and decided to step in and aid ‘the spirit of 1776’ (Doc. A). However, the question still remains: should the United States have annexed the Philippines?
The man is in charge of the house, and he is to be followed at all the times. The women are assigned to more menial jobs like sewing, gardening, cooking, and shopping. Women were very limited with how they could spend their days. The Filipino families are dependent on the father to be the bread winner. The mother is usually expected to stay at home and take care of the children even at the expense of her career.
The progressive income tax is a tax structure where the tax rate increases as an individual taxpayer's income increases: the higher the taxpayer's income, the higher the taxpayer's respective tax rate. The progressive tax does of cause not exist merely for economic reasons. The progressive income tax can be used as a tool to distribute income or wealth or to be punitive, but that would be a deliberate choice and is not an essential component of the progressive tax . However it is the only way in an income tax regime to accomplish that.
Immigrant’s one thing, full citizenship, or a legal status that will allow them to work, but it has been a long road and the wait continues. Based on the experience of Filipino immigrants, some of these key points on the immigration reform make no sense. For starters it creates an even more complex pathway to citizenship for all immigrants and expensive fees that many immigrants can’t afford to pay. As mentioned, in the immigration reform, one key point is improving the current system by developing a new form of identification for all immigrants but billions of tax dollars will be used where instead can be used in more beneficial ways. According to NAFCON, for many Filipinos in the United States in particular, “For the family of immigrants it ends petitions for married children over 30 and siblings 18 months after the new law begins.”
Governments need to tax its citizens in order to protect and serve them. Many politicians vehemently debate which taxation methods the government should or should not utilize. Most members of the United States of America pay taxes every year. No wonder taxes play a major role in politics. According to popular belief, we procure an income tax because it provides the best way to tax citizens.
After all of these discussions and detailed analysis above, the essence of spirit and meaning which is represented behind the flat tax system is the key issue we should concentrate on. Even under the flat tax system, the rich still pay more tax as well as under the progressive flax system. The most important reason for applying flat tax system is to restore to our people their sense of freedom, their privacy and moreover, their Bill of Rights, all of which have been systematically exploited to enable the IRS to accomplish its mission closely. All in all, compare to progressive tax system, flat tax system can better consist with the Bill of Rights which is buoyed by the spirit of
In countries such as Italy, taxpayers regularly challenge tax legislation on constitutional grounds. Taxpayers in the US continue to challenge the US progressive rate structure at trial and appeals court levels without success. In Mauritius, we do not have ample case law related to the taxpayers’ right but in case of a dispute regarding taxation, the court should be able to censure any excessively high tax burden on citizens. Some rare case exist for instance when the NRPT was introduced.
It is perhaps opportunely that our government is able to push through boundaries and traditions to come up with resolutions and better policies/laws. All this time, the Philippine Economy has been deemed to have strong growth hindered by political uncertainties. This is so true. We have a potential to be great and yet we still move slow towards our development and sustainability. Our country has its own strengths and weaknesses that affect positively and/or negatively our over-all status.
In relation to home, it is quite unusual in the Philippines to journey a long distance from home. Being a tight-knit Asian family we are prone to have big families with extended relatives living under one roof. We are unlike the westerners who encourage and expect independence of its members upon reaching a certain age. A number of factors page in as one leave, which includes the people involved and affected by such movement.
The pursuit of happiness has been equated with the exercise of virtue, and virtue is to moral character. I suggest the emphasiz-ation of the pursuit of happiness as an obligation of man since Filipinos are easily motivated with the use of consequences, because the only way to achieve happiness is to act with virtue, they will act morally otherwise, they will die without achieving happiness which is the ultimate goal in the life of a human person. The pursuit of happiness will push the Filipino people towards virtue. For instance, Binay wants to be the DILG cabinet secretary in order for his name to be known all over the Philippines in preparation in the incoming 2016 election. However, the purpose of Binay to run in position is to steal the money of the country, and we all know that stealing money from the Filipino people will lead to various problems such as poverty and hunger which may result to death.
Entrepreneurship in the Philippines is currently booming and one of the best things a person can do today is start taking action in putting up its own business or acquiring a franchise (Louren, 2017). Entrepreneurship is a state of mind. It is not identified or measured with the type of business a person is in the success of that business but rather it is the total way of life for entrepreneurs. Being an entrepreneur requires distinct personality traits such as having a risk-taking personality, need for achievement, internal focus of control, tolerance for ambiguity and having a type A behavior or striving to achieve more in less time and general competitiveness (Gilles and Mondejar, 2008). Entrepreneurship has been described as the “capacity and willingness to develop, organize and manage a business venture along with any of its risks in order to make a profit” (www.businessdictionary.com).
