In 2015, HBO aired a six-part, true crime documentary series titled, The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst. Writer and director, Andrew Jarecki, examined the details of three crimes associated with Durst, including the disappearance of Durst’s first wife Kathy, the murder of his dear friend, Susan, and the murder and dismemberment of his neighbor, Morris Black. While the mini-series was met with acclaim, many – including myself – criticize The Jinx for its storytelling approach. The series seemingly blurs the lines of storytelling – for entertainment purposes – and journalism; raising many questions regarding ethics. Initially, Durst approached Jarecki regarding an interview after he saw All Good Things, a film Jarecki had released

Whereas, in The Cask of Amontillado, the reason behind the murder is revenge, “The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as best I could; but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge.” Additionally, Montressor’s jealousy is another reason because of which he murders Fortunato. The other difference noticed in the short stories, is that in both of the short stories the aftermath of the murder is different. His stories are simple and he tends to give away the ending at the beginning of the film, which intrigues you to find out more about what had taken place. For example Romeo and Juliet starts with a news flash on a television screen describing city brawls that have taken place and later in the film there are more fights that occurs. Strictly ballroom starts off with Scott dancing his own steps which is the result of the story and The Great Gatsby starts off with youngish narrator, apprentice bond trader Nick Carraway, in rehab, brought about by the story Luhrmann illustrates throughout the film. All of Baz Luhrmanns films are set in the closed, confined, isolated little worlds. Strictly ballroom is set in the isolated, specialized world of ballroom dancing, and nearly the entire film is shot in either the ballroom or the dance studio.

In "Serial Killers: From Jack the Ripper to Aileen Wuornos," myths about serial killers are pointed out, which include “serial killers are all dysfunctional loners” (Blake and Cooper ). This myth derives from the belief that serial killers are monsters; however, it is a myth because most serial killers actually function well through relationships. Throughout Dexter, Dexter develops relationships with multiple people, and ends up marrying someone he truly loves, Rita, and caring his children. Examples of serial killers in Dexter, who defeat the misconception of being a loner, start in season one with The Ice Truck Killer, who drains the blood of his victims then cuts them into precise pieces, dates Dexter’s sister, Debra Morgan. Since Debra is a detective, she should suspects The Ice Truck Killer, Rudy, of these terrible crimes, but because of his charming nature; she is oblivious to his true identity.

The date of August 9, 1969, seems familiar to some people and to others there is no such relevance or significance. Manson was connected to the brutal slayings of actress Sharon Tate and other Hollywood residents, but he was never actually found guilty of committing the murders himself. The Manson Family is thought to have carried out 35 killings but, most were never tried due to lack of evidence or perpetrators were already sentenced to life for the Tate/La Bianca killings.
