In many ways screen images of families reflect on Societal attitudes around race, class and gender an example if this is the movie Contagion as the virus spread people with class knew that it was a epidemic and a lot of people were going to die. Dr. Cleever calls his wife and told her to leave the city. As the wife is getting ready to leave the city she gets a call from her friend and tells her friend to leave from the city and tells her friend not to share the information with no one. By that said in movies societal attitude around class is seen in films. Another example in the movie The Namesake Gogol comes from Bengali Culture in India. Both parents are native from India and bring the same culture believes. As Gogol gets older he is
Prior, to the emergence of America entering World War I the era of Industrialization had finished and continuous conflicts between the ideals of the United States remaining in isolation were brought amongst by President Woodrow Wilson. However, this idea of Isolationism was challenged by the idea of expanding the nation 's borders, also known as Imperialism these two ideas conflicted greatly with each other. Towards the early 1900’s President Wilson was in office when Germany sank The Lusitania in which the United States had a decision to make by choosing to go into the war, around this time film was making an introduction into the world whether it being in the newly built film palaces or somewhere else. When the United States had announced
Not only does this make him drift from his family, but drift from his Indian Culture. “At times, as the laughter at Gerald and Lydia’s table swells, and another bottle of wine is opened, and Gogol raises his glass to be filled yet again, he is conscious of the fact that his immersion in Maxine’s family is a betrayal of his own” (141). Gogol has been following the “American” ways with Maxine’s family and he has become aware of the disconnection between him and his culture. It seems as if he is starting to feel quite guilty because of this and he feels as if he is being
Gogol, the son of Ashima and Ashoke, was born in America and spends the first half of his life trying to run away from his Bengali roots. Although Gogol does not feel as lost and detached as his parents in America, he has a difficult time trying to balance the Bengali culture he was born into as well as the American culture he sees and experiences all around him as he is growing up. Throughout the novel, The Namesake, Gogol struggles to develop his identity due to the clashing of Bengali and American culture in his life. The film 13th directed by Ava DuVernay targets an intended audience of the Media and the three branches of the United States government with an emphasis that mass incarceration is an extension of slavery. It is intended to inform viewers about the criminalization of African Americans and the United States prison boom. 13th uses rhetorical devices in its claim to persuade the viewers by using exemplum in the opening seconds of the film. President Barack Obama presents statistics, saying “the United States is home to 5% of the world’s population but is home to 25% of the world’s prisoners.” Also the film uses a hyperbole in talking about the movie Birth of a Nation produced in 1915 which portrays a black man as a violent savage who will kill white women.
In 2015, HBO aired a six-part, true crime documentary series titled, The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst. Writer and director, Andrew Jarecki, examined the details of three crimes associated with Durst, including the disappearance of Durst’s first wife Kathy, the murder of his dear friend, Susan, and the murder and dismemberment of his neighbor, Morris Black. While the mini-series was met with acclaim, many – including myself – criticize The Jinx for its storytelling approach. The series seemingly blurs the lines of storytelling – for entertainment purposes – and journalism; raising many questions regarding ethics. Initially, Durst approached Jarecki regarding an interview after he saw All Good Things, a film Jarecki had released
On the other hand, his parents choose to be with each other and then they started to love each other. Marriage to them was like an obligation. It was their duty and that was why they had to remain as couple forever till the end of time. However, Gogol is different. After he marries Moushumi, they are happy for only one year, then Moushumi
Film is a story of people and a story made by the people. Since society is a world of community where people creates atmospheres and interact with one another, through films we can look into the mirror of the society at that time. The French society from the mid 1950s to the mid 1960s was the time when the postwar modernization for France had begun. During this time period there were many values that the society reflected and various cultures that were embedded into the people’s lives.

In the movie, racism, negligence of one side of the story, and objectivity are applied.
Through movies’ ability to stay grounded in some truths, yet also push social boundaries, it is clear that films shape culture, and culture shapes film, making more important now than ever that filmmakers are aware of what they are putting out and the implications they will have. Not every movie producer
The concept of Social realism as a film genre is to portray the ‘real life’ of a working-class society. Social realism films depict the social, political and economic injustices’ that influence and impact people in society (Taylor, 2006). It is raw and gives the audience a true indication of what life is like (Lay, 2002). Social realism first came about during an economic downfall in the 1920s. It was an art movement that social realists started, to represent the working class.

Films are the lenses through which one could look at the world and explore the way other people think and see it however, there became a time in which films stopped being just lenses, they became an entire world that is full of mistakes as much as it is full of virtues. New kinds of filmmaking appeared as a response to the works of film production companies, such as Hollywood, and it is called Independent filmmaking. This response aimed to show the gaps Hollywood films contained, and to show that Hollywood movies do not reflect the truth, for as sherry B. Ortner, An American anthropologist and professor at UCLA states “independent producers and filmmakers can get quite angry about what Hollywood films are doing and saying. When they are explicit
Abstract: In most parts of the world, females have always been the victim of oppressive patriarchy and male chauvinism since ages. This problem has been represented by many people through various forms of creations be it art, literature or films. Films are the most popular visual mediums of entertainment through which a large segment of people can be approached.
