Despite the fact that all the information might not be as completely accurate as the others, the book "Maus" gives the information in the simplest and most engaging way. It also shows a lot considering it was based off a mans true survivor story. In the book “Maus” you are walked through the life of Vladek Spiegelman, a man who was once defending the ones he loved from the Germans but soon had to begin his escape from their grasps to protect the ones he loves. It sounded just like any other survivor story that you would hear but there’s something a little different about this one, the book is written by Vladeks son Art Spiegelman who decided to portray all the Jews in his book as mice and the Germans as cats which really pulled a lot of readers in and made the story a lot easier for readers to follow. Another good quality that the book had was that they didn’t focus specifically on what went on during the Holocaust, but also how Vladek handled it in present time and how it effected him and what the events of the Holocaust lead him to do with his life in the present. …show more content…
The documentary shared a lot of emotions that the survivor had built up and I could definitely feel how much pain he went through while he was there and how horrifying it must have been. One thing that the documentary had that the book did not have was how the people in the concentration camps survived instead of how people survived outside of the camps. In the book a lot of it was about Vladek and his family being on the run from he Germans and preventing themselves from ending up in a concentration camp but the documentary was all about a man who went to a camp immediately with his family and what horrible things that he had to witness while in
Have you heard of the Holocaust? Have you ever wanted to learn what they experienced from a true story? Well Night by Elie Wiesel might be a good book for you. As I said, it is based story and it will follow Elie's journey from spending time with his family to getting moved to a concentration camp. Elie and his father must face brutal beatings and harsh selections throughout the book, and it will only get worse for the both of them.
“Night” Essay I bet that you wouldn’t want to be in the position the Jews were in during the holocaust. “Night” by Elie Wiesel was published in 1985. This book tells us all the stuff that Elie went through during the holocaust and on, about how bad they were treated at the time. Some ways the Jews were being dehumanized was that they were forced to watch people getting hanged, they tattooed numbers as their new name and some even killed their own family members.
How could a person be so cruel to dozens of Jews and watch them die slowly? The Nazi soldiers had no mercy for the Jews even if they did nothing wrong to them. Lastly, the amount of suffering at Auschwitz and Buna was hard for me to read about. I couldn’t imagine how it felt to live in the conditions that the Jews had to live for years. Standing
Although many deaths in the Holocaust were forced deaths, there were a lot of brave souls who sacrificed their own lives for others. Something that I took away from the book is how strong people had to be to go through that. People need to remember the Holocaust, it should never be ignored, nor neglected. The most notable part of the book is how Hannah had to adapt from being in a safe home, to a place she would have ever thought. Nevertheless, is important to understand this time period because the pain people have to go through is unimaginable, and we need to never make the same mistakes we made in the past.
Elie Weisel’s “Night” so far is excellent. He explains how he imposed a ten year vow never tell what happened to him and millions of other Jews. He tells about how he was taken from his family when he was a teenager and put into a concentration camp. The setting is Sighet, Transylvania during the 1940’s. Elie lived with his four siblings and his parents.
The book Night by Elie Wiesel is a memoir written to make the argument that his story matters and should not be repeated again. Through his book, it demonstrates the hardships he faced during his time in the camp and what he did in order to survive. Therefore the book provided a first hand experience and revelation of the events that occur. The Holocaust is a tragedy that was caused by the Nazi regime which believed that Germans were racially superior to the Jewish population. Nazi labeled the Jewish Community as a threat to German society, hence this event resulted in the death of over six million jewish people.
The Holocaust. A short, unimaginable period, of just over twelve years, where almost 6 million Jews were murdered by the German nazis. Overall, 17 million victims were killed and thousands were forced to work in inhumane conditions and live in concentration camps. Elie Wiesel, a victim of the Holocaust, having been deported at the age of 12, is one of the few survivors who lived to tell their story. He has written many books and given many speeches about his experience, but they all convey a similar message, that we as a population, cannot remain silent but to stand up for the indifferences and the horrendous events of this world.
While readers learn the same information from the informational website The Holocaust Explained and the novel Paper Hearts by Meg Wiviott, the different perspectives, diction used, and tone help the reader to learn this information differently; readers gain knowledge in a formal tone from The Holocaust Explained while experiencing a dark and emotional view from a victim in Paper Hearts. The point of view in both The Holocaust Explained and Paper Hearts impacts the reader and how they learn. “Showers” in Paper Hearts, is retold by Fania. She had just arrived at Auschwitz as a Jew during the Holocaust.
Through studying this tragic event, the dangers of racism and prejudice will be clear. At ages most students learn about the holocaust, they struggle with loyalty, conformity, peer pressure, and belonging. The Holocaust may help teach youth to be aware of how to navigate these pressures of society and be able to make the correct decisions however difficult that may be (Why teach The Holocaust?). Stories of specific people from The Holocaust can engage students into a great lesson that they can take into their daily lives (Why teach about The
The Holocaust can be called one of the darkest sides and the biggest tragedies of the human civilization. There are many different stories and experiences that recap what happened in the camps. Each one is unique from the next, but also shares similarities with in each other. There are two stories that interest many people and have similarities and differences. In the novel Night and in the movie "Life is Beautiful", the Holocaust was experienced both similarly and differently through the mood of sadness, father/ son relationship, and self-preservation.
I only focused on the most relevant and pressing issues that I identified but overall both of these pieces were very well written and very good tools to display the terrible things that occurred in the holocaust. The Holocaust changed the Jewish people's morals and values. This event caused these Jewish people who were put into this mess because of their religion completely turn their back on not only their religion but their god. It also really showed the flaw in the german people's logic when his own son was put into the situation the man was putting a whole race through and it broke
The Holocaust was a big tragedy that started on January 30, 1933, and ended in 1945.These twelve years affect a lot of people around the world differently mentally, physically and emotionally. There are some people who actually went through this horrible time period and was able to tell their story and some people who left her diary behind for others to tell their story. One book I read that stood out from other books During the Holocaust was The Girl in the Green Sweater: A Life in Holocaust 's Shadow by Krystyna Chiger. The story was told by Chiger herself.
Many people have learned about the Holocaust throughout the years, but learning about it from a primary source is a whole different experience. A scary journey that turned out to be the Holocaust has been told by two individuals that survived. These two stories tell the reader what life was like and what they went through. Even though the conditions were terrible, both Eli and Lina were able to survive and break away through fear, horrendous experiences, and hope that lead them to surviving and leaving people they cared about behind.
An element they have in common is purpose. They both want to show how horrible the holocaust was like Wiesel said, "Never shall I forget" because he will never forget what he has gone through. The documentary showed what he had meant. It glorified what had happened. They both have the same purpose, they want to show the readers what it looked and felt like to be in the holocaust.
The Holocaust was a horrible event in history that will scar humanity forever. With the events of the Holocaust being experienced by millions there are many different perspectives of said events. One such perspective is presented in Night, a memoir written by Elie Wiesel about his experiences as a young Jewish boy during the Holocaust. Another perspective is presented in Schindler’s List, a film directed by Steven Spielberg (based on the novel Schindler’s Ark by Thomas Keneally) about Oskar Schindler, a gentile who saves over one thousand Jewish lives during the Holocaust. Both pieces show heart wrenching stories of the abuse of a group of people in different ways, each using different mediums to convey their points.
