A college education gives students an opportunity to socialize and make new friends that they could not have met if they were not enrolled in a college. You begin to interact with people of all cultures and learn how to embrace diversity. As you begin to associate with these different cultures you eliminate the stereotypical ideas you had about those cultures. Joining different social clubs or groups can help you to become more socially involved and active around campus. For example, joining a sorority or fraternity you are engaging with a group of people that have prior knowledge and know the history behind the organization. It is said to be that a college graduate’s income was about $29,000 more annually than a high school graduate (Hansen, 1). According to Andrew Delbanco, teacher and director of American Studies at Columbia University, some estimates put the worth of a Bachelor of Arts degree at about a million dollars in incremental lifetime earnings (464). The income of families headed by people with a bachelor’s degree will be about $1.6 million more than the income of families headed by those with a high school diploma, according to Postsecondary Education (Hansen, 1). Some students and their families are faced with many student loans. Many students major in fields that will get them a high paying career, so they will be able to pay off student loans. Without a college education, you will not make as much money as you would have compared to if you have a college education. Numerous companies are starting to require people to have a college education as a minimum requirement. Although people want to major or get a degree in a field that will make them a lot of money it does not make them happy. For instance, a desk career pays more than a coaching job, but what if coaching is really what you wanted to do. Money is important, but your happiness is key. The reason for this is once you graduate people tend to work in that field for the rest of their lives. While making as much money as possible is fun, you need to make sure the career you want is the career you get and are content
