The texts read in class are all fit to a specific writer which allows the readers to find the ones they best connect with. This semester has been full of different forms of text from novels to poems. Some of these texts were loved and others not so much. Many of them were very impactful and connected with things going on at that point in time. Some spoke to me on different levels in order to truly fit onto my favorites list. There were a few stories that took quite a bit of effort to fully understand, which is why I lean more towards poems. Everyone has their favorite texts and these will vary between the people, based on the reader’s personality and situations happening in their life while reading the text. The texts that I picked as my favorites were Sonnet 7 by John Milton, Sonnet 116 by William Shakespeare, and Song: To Celia by Ben Jonson. …show more content…
Sonnet 7 spoke to me at the time I read it and connected me to what was going on in my own life. This poem was helpful because it showed me some truth about life. John Milton wrote this poem about time and the speed at which it passes. “How soon hath Time, the subtle thief of youth, Stolen on his wing my three and twentieth year!”(Page 522; Lines 1-2) This connected to me because of how fast this year is going by. Every other year felt like normal speed, but now that I am a senior everything is moving in Flash speed. “That I to manhood am arrived so near, And inward ripeness doth much less appear.”(Page 522; Lines 6-7) Which is super scary when you first realize how soon it will all be over. Reading this poem made me realize what it means to cherish your moments for what they truly
What’s your favorite book? Think about what draws you to it. Is it the wording that appeals to you, or is it the theme? Each person has different opinions on various pieces of writing depending on the personality of the reader. Equally so, the attitude of the writer and the time period it was written shows in the overall theme of the piece.
9.) Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton can be deemed merely a story love that has an unfortunate conclusion. However, when one takes into account, all of the dialogue, all of the symbolism and imagery, all of the primary themes, Ethan Frome transforms into a story concerning how quickly a man’s mind, body, and spirit can be broken apart, reassembled, and broken back down again. From the events that place Ethan in such a terrible state to the arrival of a newcomer that spurs his heart, it is a tale of hardship and restoration. Edith Wharton did not specifically try to satisfy this summary when she was composing it, however.
How to Read Literature like a Professor Analysis This was a very informative book that pointed out a lot of aspects of literature I had never really paid attention to. It really showed me how important it is to find similarities between works of literature. It especially made me realize how while all three of my summer readings were drastically different, they shared common themes, plots and even sometimes character developments.
The last book I read was the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave. This narrative was written by Frederick Douglass himself when slavery was popular in the 1800s. He was an American slave who learned to read fought to become free. I choose this book because we were required to read a narrative or autobiography written by a historical figure. I choose this book because I realized that I wanted to learn more about what life must have been like for slaves in their everyday life, and would also relate to my Early American History class.
What is truly real? (A discussion of the three most influential texts read during the first semester of AP Literature) Almost every book or novel written can teach the reader and world something important about life. Millions of books are published every year. However, a majority of the books required by school curriculums are considered classics and seem as old as time itself.
Uniquely, I believe that everyone in this course has at least one book in your heart. That one book is your life story. This is what English and writing does for me. It allows me to put pen to paper, think, and write. The number one piece of literature that has changed my life, and desire to read and write is Reposition Yourself, By TD.

The book that I have chosen for this semester was “Life in motion”, an autobiography by Misty Copeland. I personally chose to read this book because it is about a dancer and I am a dancer. This book stood out to me because she is my inspiration and has been for a long time. I look up to her and I decided well, to read a book about my inspiration.
Reading American Scholar and Civil Disobedience, stuck out to me the most. By going in depth with reading American Scholar and Civil disobedience I slowly developed my skill in reading older pieces of text, and truly understanding what they mean. Initially reading them was really rough as I was limited in my understanding of the purpose of the text, and the rhetorical devices that were embedded within them. As I learned that teamwork was quite important in situations like this, as my table mates and I had to exchange ideas and different standpoints with each other to decipher the text and learn the author 's true message. Before I was stubborn to use my table mates for help because I considered myself a fairly independent person, however I
In this day and age, with the shift in technology from the 1990s to the present people have witnessed a major shift in power from marketers to customers ( Ferrell, 2014, p. 03). With the advanced technology that we now have today, companies must be able to provide a product that stands out against the rest or otherwise stand the chance of falling into “Commodity Hell” (Ferrell, 2014, p. 02). Netflix has become a pioneer with the global internet streaming business. As a customer in 2015, I have grown to recognize that I have the option to purchase a product or leave that product alone based upon the knowledge that I now have access to on the internet. Netflix provides a digital product that is both unique and of high quality; A major standard
In preparation for AP Language and Composition, I (and the rest of the class) was asked to write an essay to re-introduce myself as a reader, writer, and a thinker/learner to my peers. Quite frankly, I believe this is the first time I’ve done any of these things all summer. While I’ve done few, if any, of these tasks all summer till now, I’m going to try and reflect on times I did and see what I was like/who I was while performing them. While I barely read and usually only do when I have to, there are certain subjects and themes in books which make me interested in them compared to other books/novels. For example, I know this is a very stereotypical answer but my favorite books of all time are all the books in the Harry Potter series.
Tuesdays With Morrie By Mitch Albom and The Last Lecture By Randy Pausch both deal with how a person lives and not how they die from the disease. Morrie and Randy were both educators. Both books are not really sad. Morrie taught us to dance while you can with no regrets. To laugh to love and to put others first.
“Wandering Work”: I think the work that means the most to me at this point in my life is Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood. I have always had this motto in reading books: only read books in a series so as to see how the character develops and how the plotline develops along with him/her. Ever since I started high school I started quite enjoying reading school books, but none have resonated with me as much as Alias Grace did when I read it in AP literature.
The end of WW2 in Europe was well featured with the substantial devastation of every single possible field of people’s economic, social and legal lives. Generally speaking, Europe was left devastated to the degree when external help would only help. The question was how to rebuild it. While the allied powers opposed reparations by Germany, Stalin, on contrary, demanded tremendously high compensations, stressing the fact that Soviet Union had the highest number of deaths, casualties and other victims. When these demands were denied, USSR began shifting all the heavy industries and manufacturing from Germany to Soviet Republics.
This semester we have read through many pieces of literature that have touched on a multitude of subjects. These works contain stories filled with interesting characters who deal with conflict in their own personal ways and moralistic themes that are left for the reader to interpret. For me, this semester has been filled with so many interesting works and Its hard to narrow down which ones I would personally say touched me. But if I have to narrow it down to three separate stories then I would have to say Self-Reliance, The Age of Reason and Uncle Toms Cabin. These stories have been the most interesting in my opinion, even if its not for a positive reason.
