Final Reflection Over the course of the semester, I was challenged in different ways regarding my writing skills, group work, and ability to take constructive criticism. I think that this class truly did push me to reach new heights of my writing ability, and working with others helped me get there. Overall I enjoyed this class and it was always a nice break from the regular day, and being in such a small and close environment, helped me create constructive working relationships with my fellow classmates quite successfully. A big issue in my writing initially before this class was my organization. I had a tough time constructing my essays in a way that sounded overall organized, and had a consistent flow to it. My writing process before this class usually consisted of me trying to make an outline, then just type out whatever pops into my head. This causes some of my paragraphs and ideas to show up on the paper as sporadic and not exactly carefully …show more content…
This was something I have always struggled with when it came to writing, and even after all of the work we did, I still found myself failing to correct simple grammar mistakes. I think the main cause of this was the fact that while editing my paper, I solely relied on the comments from my peers or you Professor Kim. Multiple times you pointed out that you were not pointing out all of the grammatical mistakes I was making, and I struggled to look over and recognize exactly what I was missing. A solution that I found helped this problem of mine, was reading out loud instead of in my head when going over edits. I found that if I were to read what I was writing out loud to myself, I would actually hear what sounded either awkward or grammatically incorrect. While I find that I generally improved this weaker area of my writing, I still definitely need to focus on it more and find other ways to catch myself making these grammatical
Thinking to yourself, if I can 't master the proper usage how can I write good prose? Most put in this position, won 't attempt again,
and I did the same with the grammar. Even though I struggled with those couple things I would that my message was clear and kept the reader going. One thing I didn’t do so great with on that is providing enough information for the things I was trying to discuss. I learned that I can be a good writer if I actually take my time sit down and proofread
reflecting on my progress thus far in this course, I have not only become cognizant of my writing skills and habits, but improvements I need to make to become a better writer. Although writing has never been one of my strong suits, I have learned valuable writing skills and strategies that are applicable to both the professional and academic field. Transitioning from the way I have been taught to write as a high school student has been the most challenging and influential change I have witnessed in my writing. To elaborate, in high school, we were taught the basis for writing any essay regardless of the audience or topic was the rigid five-paragraph essay structure.
A semester have passed in a blink of our eyes and we are heading toward the end. Therefore, it is time to reflect upon my writing skills. Earlier in the semester, I aimed for an A in this class and I also wish to become a more efficient writer. In order to do so, I planned to use a lot of the available resources such as the writing lab, Learning Curve, and
I wound up changing different drafts of my papers in these classes. I feel like this is something essential that I have learned from these classes. Learning to reexamine and determine mistakes to have the assistance of my associates or my professor is something that will incredibly help the nature of my writing. I had a feeling that I was a solid writer coming into this class however now having the capacity to adjust my writing to distinctive styles and having the capacity to make fitting and compelling revisions to my work I have a feeling that I am a more finish English student. I was exceptionally stubborn to alter my work before these classes, on the other hand I now understand that modification are a vital piece of life as well as they are a critical piece of learning and writing.
This semester has been an ongoing challenge for me but has been an enjoyable one and I have not been presented with any impossible tasks. I have never been much of a writer, and during the course of this semester, I 've struggled to meet length requirements on the assigned essays. However, I do understand that not everyone is an excellent writer or even has to enjoy writing to get a good grade in this 1A class. From the start, with the first essay, I pushed myself to do my best and looked to multiple outlets to polish my writing, such as the online tutor, the writing center, the internet and the writer 's handbook.
At the beginning, I had a lot of usage errors, and I wasn't quite sure how to even go about writing essays. I didn’t even have a clue as to what the difference between the types of papers was. The only thing I knew how to do was make a title and how to keep my thesis consistent throughout the paper. I didn’t know how to set up MLA format, write the different kinds of papers, or how to revise an essay. Throughout the class, I learned how to do all of the things
The weekly reading assignments were very helpful. Some of the topics were great refreshers of common mistakes made when writing; these knocked some of the cobwebs in my mind loose. The other topics with sample writings gave me an idea of what to do. The instructor feedback and the revision recommendations were probably the most helpful tools in my composition process.
Another weakness in my writing piece is that I need to edit more. There is at least one grammar mistake in each paragraph of my writing, two pairs of brackets and I have two word choice suggestions.
Throughout the term there has been many writing assignments —big or small— that helped reflect my writing process or the process itself. In the beginning of the course I felt like I was an “ok” writer, but lacked some skills such as: organization, sentence variety, and vocabulary. Also, I did not like to write and had a feeling of dislike when forced to write. I felt like I improved on everything I wanted and was seen throughout the semester. I know how to organize my ideas, the worksheets given in class to work on sentence variety really helped, and vocabulary was built on some level.
My Writing Struggles After taking AP English III, I became better at organizing my papers, but realizing I need to improve my grammar skills and staying focused on my supporting points. All throughout my writing career, I was always thought to be an outstanding writer, especially using vocabulary above my grade range. Naturally, I would see myself as an excellent writer as well until I took Mrs. Bingham’s AP English II course. Mrs. Bingham always gave pointers, tips, and work to improve my class’s writing skills as a whole.
One of my improvements for the essay number 2 is that, I did my best to use more academic and more advanced vocabularies on my essay. I believe the reason behind it was the Vocabulary project that we should submit earlier. Although I learned many different words from the project, I wanted to learn how to use them in academic writing. Therefore, I decided to challenge myself for essay number 2 to use more advance vocabularies. After I submitted my essay I realized that after editing my essay for 100 times I still have grammar errors.
Writing essays and other types of posts has always been difficult for me. But, throughout this composition class, I have learned many interesting and new things about the different types of writing styles. When starting this class, I considered myself to be an average writer with run-of-the-mill vocabulary, ordinary sentence structure and typical finished products. This class has helped me greatly improve my writing skills in a variety of ways. I have learned multiple things by taking this class, such as new ways to approach writing and that there is much that I still need to learn about composition.
I find that I make a lot of grammatical errors, and I am not always able to find them. It would be really helpful for me to work on learning some of the basic tools that can be used in the mechanics and grammatical parts of sentence structure. I also struggle with reading comprehension so analysis writing pieces can be a bit of a challenge for me. I find that it takes a lot of time and effort for me to comprehend and analyze text. Mainly working through that process and gaining the tools necessary to read and comprehend text will help me
Writing project 3 has shown me the importance of writing something that is of interest for you, an issue that you are passionate about. I think that I have started to get somewhat better at the structuring of my writing and using outlines before I jump into a draft. I am no longer as scared and hesitant to write, as I was the first writing project. I think a good goal that I accomplished from this project was using diverse sources in my writing. I was able to utilize a magazine post, newspaper article and research journals to form my argument and provide support.
